Ed Begley Jr. gets heated over global warming on Fox News

edbegleyjr_foxnews_290.jpgNormally amiable "Living with Ed" star Ed Begley Jr. gets passionate about green living. Fox News' "Neal Cavuto Show" guest host Stuart Varney found out firsthand.

Varney pressed Begley about recent reports that hacked files cast doubt on several climate change claims. While Begley started out his normally calm self, rightly insisting interested parties should turn to qualified scientists rather than actors and anchormen, that's not dramatic enough for the, well, inflammatory talent at Fox News.

In short order, Varney was shouting at Begley about being unable to buy lightbulbs, with Begley returning fire (still rightly saying science should be left to the scientists).

Watch the dust-up:

Who do you agree with? Was it an ambush interview, or did Ed go too far?

"you people", "cannot destroy the commons".....

Begley is an idiot. The wheels are coming off, have come off the AGW bandwagon.

Just watch all of the roaches scatter now that the light has been turned on.

they both went too far. Of course it was an ambush interview fox news hates green people.

Begley is right. The debate is over. The deniers have as much chance of being right as King Canute had of stopping the tide from rising around him.

They are making all this fuss about one leaked email from 10 years ago while ignoring the simple fact that glaciers are retreating at an unprecedented rate, the ice caps are melting, and the sea level is rising. Several data sets and analyses done completely independently of Cambridge come to the same conclusion, and the specific data that the deniers claim was being concealed has been openly debated in published papers for the last 10 years. Nobody is hiding anything.

But, of course, the deniers simply leap on a couple of Drudge stories and jump to the wrong conclusions because it suits their preconceived political viewpoint.

As for the nature of the interview -- that was entirely Varney's fault. He escalated the confrontation at every point along the way.

NPR, PBS, and CNN regularly have interviews where the host takes the adversarial position (i.e. the devil's advocate) but they never descend into a shouting match. There are only two possible reasons it did here:

1) Varney intended to do it.
2) Varney acted unprofessionally.

(Well, he was unprofessional in either case.)

And Begley was exactly right about Varney's erroneous claim that Inhofe's has a list of "700 climate scientists" who question global warming. It is patently untrue.

Inhofe's list is padded of paid energy industry consultants and lobbyists, local TV weathermen, economists, and scientists whose fields are nothing to do with climatology. It also contains some people who accept the consensus science but have issued maybe one statement critical of one specific aspect of it (and have demanded to be removed from the list).

Strip away the padding and the fluff you are left with perhaps a few dozen climate experts who are skeptics.

Big whoop. You can find a couple of dozen skeptics for just about anything -- including denying the Holocaust ever happened and denying that smoking causes cancer. There are 50,000 Earth scientists in the American Geophysical Union, including many thousands who have studied Earth's climate and not one of them is on Inhofe's list.

Ed's point of view was Fair and Balanced Stuart Varney should have known that.

Ed Begley Hit one out of the Park with this Interview

Begley is an idiot. The science is far from settled. tacitus, you are wrong about the ice caps and sea levels. Follow Begley's advice and research it yourself. The western Antartic has more ice now than it has had in decades. Sea levels are not rising, that's a myth. I'm not sure how old you are, but I remember the warnings of the impending ice age that some of these very same scientists were ranting about in the 1970's. That was supposedly being caused by the very same things they now say are causing global warming. What you are buying into is a loss of freedom, and the largest tax hike in the history of the world.

How refreshing to read comments from people who agree to let science rule. I have responded to articles like these elsewhere where all you get are bloggers yelling at you that one email or piece of research (bogus or otherwise) makes it all false and they refuse to listen otherwise. Just yell, yell, yell.

The world's leading expert on the supposedly declining polar bear (according to Al Goron) says they are actually increasing in numbers. He was barred from attending the Un climate conference. Skeptics and dissenters are silenced at every turn. If the science is settled why not let them speak? Why not show with science how they are wrong? Why the desperate need to keep them quiet? Why manipulate data with false temperature readings when you don't obtain the desired results? Why doesn't Al Goron allow the press to attend his climate speeches and why does he have anyone who questions him tossed out?

Did you people even watch the Video? Ed was the one who jumped off the band wangon yelling pointing him finger at Stuart.
Stuart had to raise his voice to try to get a question in at all, the truth is out about the biggest lie to the world, and every one is running for cover, So tell me where is the press and why are they not looking for Al Gore??? For you people who dont have a clue- its called cycles, The Earth goes through them, all the time,
