'Dollhouse': Why we're happy it got canceled (other than the obvious)

dichenlachman_dollhouse_290.jpgCancellation was a blessing for Joss Whedon's sci fi drama "Dollhouse," not only for the beleaguered viewers at home but for the production itself.

We at Zap2it love TV, so we're more relieved rather than gleeful that "Dollhouse" got the ax. The show just wasn't up to Whedon's snuff, despite a few episode/performance gems.

We're grateful that we got introduced to relative newcomers like Dichen Lachman, Enver Gjokaj, Miracle Laurie and Fran Kranz and got to see Whedonverse faves like Amy Acker and Summer Glau again. Nevertheless, "Dollhouse" was a blight on Whedon's resume and a less guilty pleasure than we had hoped.

Here are a few humble reasons why we're glad that "Dollhouse" has gone into the ground for good (as of Jan. 22):

  • As "Buffy/Angel/Firefly" fans, we can finally stop feeling guilty for not liking "Dollhouse"
  • Frees up Whedon, Dichen Lachman, Fran Kranz, etc. for bigger & better projects
  • The end to icky sex slave storylines
  • This forever severs the working relationship between Joss Whedon & FOX
  • Haunting theme song won't get stuck in our heads at night
  • With a series end in sight, Whedon can hopefully give Sierra and Victor a happy ending
  • Made us stop wondering when we'd meet goofily named actives Yankee, Foxtrot, Golf, Uniform and Hotel

Do you have any additional reasons? Or will you miss "Dollhouse"?

Not happy at all about this cancellation. One of the most original and different shows on TV, and one that really challenged you to think.

So we'll end up with another procedural/cop/lawyer/medical show in prime time, right? Oh boy! Just what we need.

What are you talking about fool, people love this show. Crazy woman!!!

If people loved this show, it woud be getting more than 3 million viewers a week and thus, not being cancelled. The show was a dreadful bore.

I've got lots of friends who are devout Whedonites. But I could never get into Buffy or Angel (I hate vampires), and misses Firefly completely (though I liked Serenity). Dollhouse is the first Whedon series that I like and look forward to, and is one of my only four must-see programs currently on television. This is not a cause for celebration.

I hope they at least show the remaining episodes!!

It's a show that's getting better every week but of course nobody watches it...because A)it's a sci-fi show on fox so everyone knows it'll get cancelled sooner rather than later.B)fox also went and put it in the graveyard of US TV that is the friday night slot.C)it's a joss whedon show so fox were always going to cancel it,almost certainly without a proper resolution.D)FOX!

THE SHOW WAS UTTERLY DUMB!!
IM GLAD IT GOT CANCELED!!!
I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE THAT JAPANESE MANGA,"DOLLHOUSE"(BOTH KINDA ALIKE)BUT THIS SHOW WAS STUPID. ANOTHER LAME "GIRLS WITH GUNS" GENRE RUINED....THIS SHOW SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED "DULLHOUSE" BECAUSE...IT WAS!!!!

I'm glad Joss is free to do better things. I thought from the beginning that the premise was only designed to last one season to get Dushku out of her Fox contract so that they could do a Faith spinoff. Joss deserves to be on a station like HBO or Showtime that will allow him to explore endlessly without interference. This show was screwed from the get go when I heard Fox made them re-do the first few episodes. Not the worst show ever and definitely not the best.

Thank you, lian for your INSIGHTFUL COMMENTS ... or, you know, not.

I loved Dollhouse. I loved Victor and I loved Sierra and I loved Ballard and ... I never could quite figure out whether I was supposed to love Adele or not. Or Echo, for that matter. I'm sorry it's been stopped, but I hope the talented cast goes on to bigger things. (This is TV. I don't hold out a lot of hope for *better* things. Better things get canceled.)

I LOVED Dollhouse and I'm very sad its cancelled.
