Coming soon: NBC's 'Sing-Off,' ABC's 'Find My Family,' FOX's 'Little Genius'

'Tis the season ... for short-run reality shows to fill holes in network schedules while scripted shows and big competitions are on a break.

NBC and ABC each announced one such series on Wednesday (Nov. 11), while FOX has given the green light to another smart-kids game show from Mark Burnett. Here's a rundown of the three shows.

"The Sing-Off": NBC will premiere a singing competition for a cappella groups on Monday, Dec. 14. Eight groups will compete over four nights to win a contract with Epic Records, and since they sing a cappella, there's no backing band or other musical help.

Following the premiere on the 14th, the competition continues on Dec. 15 and 16 and is capped with the crowning of the winner on Dec. 21. All episodes start at 8 p.m. ET and will run for two hours; the finale will air live on the East Coast.

"Find My Family": The title of ABC's show tells you pretty much what you need to know: It's about helping people find long-lost relatives.

The show will premiere at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23 with a half-hour episode and will expand to an hour the following week. It's a last-minute replacement for the previously announced celebrity dance competition "Let's Dance," which has been shelved for now because of casting issues.

Each episode will follow hosts Tim Green and Lisa Joyner and a team of researchers as they help people reconnect with relatives they haven't seen or contacted in years. The premiere will tell the story of a couple who as teenagers gave their daughter up for adoption and meet her for the first time 29 years later.

"Our Little Genius": Burnett, the man who brought you "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," is also executive producing this new game show that will showcase 6- to 12-year-olds with Mensa-level IQs playing for potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars for their families.

The catch: The parents can stop the game at any time, which lets the family keep whatever money the child has won. A panel of professors, scientists and other experts will help the parents make informed decisions. Burnett says the show is intended to "celebrate [the] true talents" of the big-brained kids and undermine the nerdy stereotype. He's executive producing with Barry Poznick and John Stevens.

FOX hasn't set an airdate for the show yet.
