Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' review: This song's for you, Tony Romo

carrie-underwood-tony-romo.jpgWhatever you feel about "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's third album, you have to love her digs at a famous quarterback she once dated.

Both "Cowboy Casanova" and "Songs Like This" are girl-power anthems about bad boys and can be seen as not-so-thinly-veiled references to Underwood's romance with Cowboys' field general Tony Romo. Both are upbeat, catchy "Before He Cheats"-esque numbers and I think they will be extremely popular.

Other songs off the album I enjoyed and think will get some airplay are "Undo It," which makes me think Kelly-Clarkson-goes-country, "Unapologize," a song about not being sorry you blurted out your feelings to someone (we've all been there), and "Someday When I Stop Loving You," a pretty ballad that shows off Underwood's pure vocals better than the heavy-on-the-studio-production faster numbers.

carrie-underwood-play-on.jpgThere is also a number called "Change," which reminds us all how much one can do by making small changes in the world. It's not my cup of tea, but I applaud the message and (like LA Times reviewer Randy Lewis) it immediately made me think "Idol Gives Back."

The other six songs on the album are all fine. Underwood can obviously sing, but none of them really stood out for me as hits. Of course, nowadays that's about what you get with an album: a few stand-outs and a bunch of duds.

I think "Play On" will probably be just as successful as "Some Hearts" and "Carnival Ride" were. If you like those albums, you'll like this one. If you didn't like those, Carrie Underwood's music probably isn't for you. With "Play On," I don't know that I'd run right out and buy the whole CD, but there are a few numbers I'll download off iTunes and add to my playlist.

Love this CD and I think anyone who is a Carrie Underwood fan will love it too! And I'm not some pre-teen or 20 something. I'm a 50 year old woman who just loves this young girl, her voice and her morals. I wish there were more "Carrie's" in this world. The music scene has had enough disasters (like Britney & Amy Winehouse). It's about time someone with true wholesome values is in the spotlight for a change. Just my two cents!

Play on is an AMAZING ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!! it is far more versatile than the first time and there are songs for everyone whether you like old school country there is a song for you -Look at me
if you like new country- Unapologize
if you like country pop- Quitter
if you like more rock stuff- cowboy Casanova
THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE SO GO BUY PLAY ON NOW!!!

I hate Cowboy Casanova. It is horrible. Carrie is boring, and predictable. She takes no chances. Not impressed with her at all.

I LOVE PLAY ON!
It is the most powerful CD that I feel the most connected to. I love it, its extremely versatile. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! Please dont make rude comments about Carrie. Keep it to yourself. Fans like me get affended.

I don't really think any of the lyrics in "Cowboy Casanova" apply to Tony Romo. It just doesn't sound like him at all. And he definitely doesn't have blue eyes.

chris u r soooo right she's very predictable, all her songs sound the same

I absolutely love carrie underwood but for some reason i really am not into her new cd play on... her last cd was amazing. im kinda upset!
