carrieunderwood_cma2009_300.jpgHaving been whole-heartedly embraced by the country music community, sometimes Carrie Underwood seems like our forgotten "American Idol."

Which is a shame because the girl has got it going on.

When she welcomed us to Wednesday (Nov. 11) night's Country Music Awards alongside Brad Paisley we made note that she's managing to be just as sparkly as country divas Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker and Loretta Lynn, but still looks kind of classy as well.

Then, after a disastrous opening by country darlin' Taylor Swift, Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" was a refreshingly solid effort by a pro. She was sexy in her rhinestone boy shorts without being skanky and she can actually make it through an entire song without getting out of breath.

Well played, Carrie. Well played.

You go Carrie, stuped taylor wining vocalist of the year!!!! you should have won, you can at least sing!

Good Job Girl. Its pretty bad when someone who can't sing her way out of a bucket wins everything. You should have won female vocalist.

Unfortunately, we can't win em all. Carrie definitely deserved the vocalist award over Taylor Swift. Anyone who is not a biased Taylor fan would agree. She simply doesn't have the voice.

I completely agree with this statement. Carrie knows how to dress with class, but still play the role of what it is that she wants to pursue. At the end of "Cowboy Casanova" when she sings "you better run for your life" and drags out the "your" but still stays on pitch and in tune; I'd like to see Taylor (the supposed female vocalist of the year) do that.

Tonight's CMAs greatly disappointed me, and not just because of the vocalist award (which I believe could have been given to ANY of the nominees EXCEPT Taylor -- go figure, she's the one who ends up claiming it). They gave Taylor TWO performance slots, solo ones at that, I don't remember the last time that happened. Moving away from the Taylor show, Kid Rock and Jamey Johnson performed a duet together, what was up with that? Love Jamey, but I don't see Kid Rock fitting in the country scene. Long time favorites Rascal Flatts were beaten out by Lady Antebellum. I love Lady A, but was it really their time to win over Rascal Flatts?

Tonight, I lost a lot of respect for the CMAs. And unless they bring back both Carrie and Brad for the 3rd time next year, I can't see myself watching it. (With the exception of a killer lineup of performers) That's how I feel about it after tonight, but within a year, we shall see if things change.

I totally agree and I don't understand why in the world the Country community of stars doesn't recognize that Taylor Swift cannot carry a tune! She's cute and all, but she cannot sing. Good song writing yes --but she never should have won all of those awards. I don't get it, but we'll see over time what happens. I would have loved to have seen Miranda Lambert win something. She looked resigned to the fact that she wouldn't win--again. I love Carrie and all the other ladies, and I just don't get everyone hailing Taylor Swift so much. She simply has no singing voice.

The CMA's no longer have meaning. The fact the Taylor Swift von a "vocalist" award has destoyed the entire association. The irrepairable damage has been done and there is no way to repair it. For Talor Swift's name to go into the history books along side the previous vocalist winners is an utter joke. I hope she thanks the one person responsible for her win, Kanye West.

Did anyone miss the Country Music Awards last night? If so, you missed a really great show. Everyone big name in country was there, and there were some really great performances. Kenny Chesney performed with Dave Matthews and it was so good. I’m really glad that Darius Rucker won best new artist. I always loved his work in Hootie, so when I finally listened to his country record I instantly fell in love with it. There’s a whole write up including the winners and a photo gallery over at iHeartRadio. You should definitely check it out if you missed it! I can't believe some are calling Carrie classy because she looked like a 2-bit hooker. Every one of her recent performances she wears her clothes lower and lower. Look, I know Britney and and Carrie you are no Britney.
She looked so stiff and awkward in the Cassanova song that it was embarrassing to watch,
Taylor on the other hand may not have the greatest voice, but she is a fun performer and I was surprised that I enjoyed her performances.

If you missed the 43rd CMA awards last night head to http://tv.msn.com for clips and a recap!

I thought she performed the song well enough, but that wired bouncy coat was AWFUL. Also, why does she have to sing with her legs spread apart? It makes her seem cheap & trampy.

Carrie Underwood is a beautiful and great talent and should be the queen of the pop charts - but she's not country. Taylor Swift reminds me of Ashlee Simpson with less range.
