Ashlee Simpson goes from 'Melrose Place' to the Great White Way

ashlee_simpson2.jpgLook out, Broadway -- here comes Ashlee Simpson!

Now that she's been served her eviction notice from "Melrose Place," Ashlee Simpson is headed to Broadway to star as murderous showgirl Roxie Hart in "Chicago." Simpson previously played the role in 2006 in London, to good reviews.

According to Gossip Cop, Simpson will begin her run in December and appear for six weeks. The show's producers, Fran and Barry Weissler, loved her performance in England and wanted her to reprise the role.

Well... color us stunned. Frankly, we think the Tony-winning "Chicago" is a better gig than "Melrose Place," so we guess Ashlee Simpson is having the last laugh. We wonder what sister Jessica has to say about this? So far her Twitter is quiet.

Wait, this is the same girl that has been criticized for bad acting by actual critics and she got in trouble for lip singing so she's been rewarded with a Broadway show?

No it is not great at all, as a theatre major, it's shameful that Broadway would stoop so low as to hire a celebrity with no singing or acting talent whatsoever over a non-celebrity Broadway aspiring actor or actress with actual talent who struggles taking the subway and works at a 9-5 while still making time to struggle going to auditions and works on his craft. This is a disgrace, I don't know what you're talking about. I love Melrose Place, but I'd rather have Ashlee Simpson taint television than taint Broadway, once (and still) the platform for greats such as Angela Lansbury, Bea Arthur, Julie Harris, Liza Minelli. And now...Ashlee Simpson? Please don't make me laugh.

Ouch! Just because a person isn't successful in one area doesn't mean they can't be successful in another. I'm not a fan of hers but your comments are overly harsh. Plenty of people have "tainted" broadway to stinky reviews. Kudo's to her for getting a broadway gig. Hopefully she does as well or better than she did in London!

they said she did well in London after all.

I guess I was a little harsh, but she's setting herself up for disappointment, the only reason Broadway is stooping this low is that ticket sales are down all over NYC for Broadway shows, and a celebrity, no matter how D-list and how lacking in talent, brings in ticket sales. That means that if she doesn't bring in ticket sales, the same thing that happened on Melrose will happen to her again on Broadway, her contract will not be extended and she'll be let go from the show. They only extend contracts if you bring in the dough. I didn't mean anything about her as a person, I actually kind of like her off-beat bubbly semi-psychotic personality and she says funny things in interviews.

I'm sorry if I offended anybody, please forgive me.
