'American Idol': Kara DioGuardi on Ellen, Paula
"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi is looking forward to working with her new colleague at the judging table, but she's still processing the departure of her old friend. In an interview with Billboard, DioGuardi says she's excited to start working with Ellen DeGeneres, who was named the show's fourth judge in September. "I think she's going to be a great addition," DioGuardi says. "I can't even imagine sitting next to her."
Despite that excitement, though, she still has former judge Paula Abdul on her mind. DioGuardi has written songs with Abdul -- and even lived with Abdul for a short time after moving to Los Angeles -- and says "it was sad" to hear of Abdul's departure.
"It was definitely strange," she says. "You could tell with the contestants that she was really the heart of the show. She was very nurturing to them. I couldn't believe it, to be honest. It's still a little strange to think of 'Idol' without Paula."
Video of DioGuardi's interview -- in which she also talks about collaborating with past "Idol" contestants Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta -- is below.

She is nasty and needs to shut her mouth, esp after taking paula's job. with a ***** of a friend, who needs enemas, poor paula.
This show will tank eventually after these awful announcements of Degenerate and Kara being the other judges. Like I said, overpaid and overhyped idiots where the show now revolves around them and not the contestants.
Totally disagree with first two. AI will survive on top again, even after 9 years! Kara and Ellen are musically very knowledgeable and will provide their critiques with class and value to the contestant. It's going to be fun and refreshing...for most of us. If anyone acted like the show revolved around them, it was Paula! The suits knew what they were doing.
AI has made two wonderful choices in first Kara and then Ellen. It has brought a new energy to the show. Kara was great on the show and added much needed insight.
Kara is also amazing as a songwriter. I love her songs on Carrie's new album, especially Undo It, which I predict will be a monster hit! Carrie and Kara are an awesome combination.
Kara did not take Paula's job, idiot. If that was the case, they would have stuck with 3 judges this season and not hired Ellen.
Looking forward to AI returning next year. I will miss Paula, but am looking forward to Ellen being on the show.
