'All My Children' leaving their head writer in New York
Charles Pratt, Jr. has been fired as the "All My Children" head writer.Pratt joined the show in June 2008 and a little over a year later he is on his out. "All My Children" announced earlier this year that it will be moving its production of the show from New York City to Los Angeles; they are apparently leaving their head writer behind, according to Soap Central.
Viewers have been unhappy with the show's direction since Pratt joined the writing staff and one columnist even told viewers to boycott until Pratt was removed from his post. A replacement for Pratt has yet to be announced but this is the third head writing change for "All My Children" in three years. Hopefully soon they'll find someone who can stick around.

Creating tension between happy supercouples is one thing. Totally ripping them apart and having them act "out of character" is another. Pratt changed what viewers knew to be true and could count on about main characters - not in a good way. When you forget who your audience is - you have to go. Also btw, I know soaps go for the female 18-34ish viewer in order to get advertising dollars - but don't they realize that most of us tape, tivo/dvr or watch Soapnet these days? And that we almost ALWAYS fast forward through commercials? Write a story that appeals to your entire audience and you will get the ratings you desire. The flipside - destroy characters for a stunt, write for some silly teenage schoolgirls by bringing in young, stupid characters (with actors who can barely read let alone act), and watch your show go the way of Guiding Light, Passions, Another World, et al. Not rocket science. Brian Frons - I'm talking to you.
I think Frons should rather worry about finding a better head writer for GH. I mean we stick with Guza since 2002. Enough is enough. But sadly he will stay until the show is canceled.
I think Pratt would have worked better on AMC with a co-head writer, because he was not that bad.
Now about that Carlivati at OLTL....
They also have to stop stunt storylines that cheat the viewers. Example, "Oh Rebecca Budig said she wants to return as Greenlee - let's screw over the current actress and rewrite the storyline for Rebecca", then less than a year later, "Oh, Rebecca Budig is leaving as Greenlee because she misses/can't trust her loser/wannabe/former Bachelor husband all alone in Los Angeles - let's come up with an improbable plot to kill her character off even though we've written every storyline around her for the last year - but of course no body will ever be found in case she wises up and ditches the loser hubby". Then, "Hey, the show is moving production to Los Angeles, and, guess what? Rebecca Budig is available to take over as Greenlee again. Let's rewrite every plotline around the character again!". AMC is not the only soap that does this - they are all guilty and IMO it cheats the fans. All to stroke the ego of actors/actresses that tried to become a prime time or film star and failed.
Yep. Guza has also been involed with Loving, Port Charles, Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach. Look what happened to all of them. I think Pratt does better as a Creator and Producer than Head Writer. Only people in the Bell family seem to be able to wear all those hats successfully at once.
