2012_290.jpgThe megabucks disaster movie "2012" hits theaters next week -- and sometime after that, the story could make its way onto your television screen.

That's the word from the movie's writer and director, Roland Emmerich, who has now just totally spoiled the ending of his own film. Because if there's a TV show, then the world couldn't have actually ended, could it?

In a word, no -- or so Emmerich said at the "2012" premiere earlier this week. "The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," Emmerich tells EW.com. "It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating."

Mark Gordon, the "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" executive producer who's also an exec producer of the film, would shepherd the TV project. Emmerich says he and screenwriter Harald Kloser have already kicked around ideas about the series following "a group of people who survived but not on the boats" -- the giant craft glimpsed in the movie's trailer as the last hope for some of humanity to survive.

"[M]aybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving," Emmerich says. "There are so many possibilities of what they could do, and I'd be excited to watch it."

How about you? Would you watch a "2013" series?

I think the idea of a 2013 year after doomsday ( if done correctly ) would be a very interesting show. I would watch for sure. I would want it to be realistic, the second it got all "peace on earth good will towards men" i would stop watching it. I want it to basicly be like Lord of the Flies where everything goes crashing and as long as kevin costner isn't in it I will watch it im sick of him being in life after doomsday moves "waterworld" postman come on!

I love how Emmerich IS TELLING US what is interesting. That's problem number one with this whole thing...

The whole idea of 2012 is bull crap. But nevertheless, a "what would happen AFTER the apocalypse" series does sound somewhat intriguing.

I believe that this is going to really happen, and people are making jokes of it, people you need to read your bible, because the end it coming.

Cherrel...I don't know what kind of Bible you are using, but mine doesn't say anything about the world ending on December 21, 2012.

It's the Mayan calendar and other cultures that use the 12.21.12 date.

I'd watch it. :)

Lol it looks like Emmerich is pretty sure that people are going to go see his movie. He couldn't wait a few weeks to let us know theres a show in the works? hmmm... we'll see next week if this hurts his film haha

There has been a lot of talking going on about the year 2012 and a lot of movies made up on that subject as well. But the real reason is not known for sure still. Some say solar storm, some say global warming, some say natural causes like tsunami earthquake or volcano and some say asteroid collision. All these only confusing people a lot and thinking of earth getting destroyed isn't really a pleasant thing.

I always lookout for such information. So i think this series will be a cool thing to watch out for.

Thanks for the article :-)

Some really great, dark science fiction could be fun.

Could be the ultimate reality show!
