2010 Emmys go early; Gretchen Mol on HBO's 'Boardwalk'
The Emmys will be airing earlier than usual next year. It's NBC's turn to broadcast the Emmy Awards in 2010, and because the network broadcasts "Sunday Night Football" starting in mid-September, the Emmys will be bumped out of their traditional home on the third Sunday in September. The show is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29.
NBC did the same thing the last time it had the Emmy telecast in 2006. Those awards drew 16.2 million viewers, which at the time was considered a bit of an off year for the Emmys but hasn't been matched since.
- HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," which premieres next year, has added Gretchen Mol to its cast.
Mol, who's coming off "Life on Mars," will play a showgirl named Gillian, HBO says. The series is set in Prohibition-era Atlantic City, N.J., and centers on bootlegger/political fixer Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi).
"Sopranos" vetean Terence Winter created the show, and Martin Scorsese directed the pilot.
- In other casting news, former "Prison Break" star Amaury Nolasco, Ethan Embry and Sarah Burns have all landed roles in cable pilots.
Nolasco will co-star with Radha Mitchell in "The Quickening" for A&E, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mitchell plays a homicide detective who has bipolar disorder and is taken out of the field; Nolasco, who also did a stint on "Southland's" second season, will play her ex-husband and a fellow detective.
Embry has joined USA's pilot "Facing Kate." He'll play the brother of the title character (Sarah Shahi), a lawyer who switches gears and becomes a professional mediator. His recent credits include Showtime's "Brotherhood" and "Eagle Eye."
Finally, Burns ("I Love You, Man") will star opposite Laura Dern in HBO's comedy "Enlightened," about a woman (Dern) whose newly discovered resolve to live an enlightened life disrupts those of her family and friends. Burns will play a co-worker and friend.

jay brings all the viewers NBC needs
Why doesn't HBO air the Emmys? They sure do get a ton of noms each year, *AND* being pay cable, there would be no commericals!
How can anyone watch an awards show anymore???? A bunch of self important sycophants patting each other on the back, no thanks. They act like TV shows are so important, give me a break, they're nothing more than a diversion for a dumbed down populace of sheeple.
