Which 'Lost' character deserves a week's worth of entries?

carlton_cuse.jpgI need your help, "Lost" fans. Coming up with four topics a week during the off-season isn't the worst assignment a blogger could have, but there are occasions in which my time to think up new and interesting topics for you to read and discuss is limited at best. Currently, I'm in the middle of a 6-week stretch that may mark the busiest time of my entire life.

Hosting Zap2Locke Con and then traveling to three weddings in 6 weeks would be a busy enough Fall. Throw in being the best man at one that called for an extra trip to NYC last week makes it that much crazier. Having just closed on our first house amidst all this? That's downright silly.

But that's where I find myself now, covered in paint and bandaged blisters, typing away for you. Same as it ever was. I'm not looking for sympathy: these events are all fun, and working on the house in anticipation of moving into it is as rewarding as it is exhausting. But it does leave me less time to come up with knock-your-socks-off takes on "Lost." So this is where you come in. Rather than me try and guess what you'd like to read, I'm straight up asking you to tell me.

Here's the deal: next week, starting Sunday, October 11th, I'd like to spend a week looking at one character as a jumping off point for discussion on the show. That doesn't mean I'll write four articles about that character; it means I'll write four articles using that character's role in the show's universe as a jumping off point.

Example: say the masses declare they want a week about Cindy Chandler, Oceanic 815 stewardess, Tailie, and now Other. I won't (and probably couldn't) write four articles about Cindy per se. But I could write an article exploring indoctrination into the Others' world. I could talk about the role of the Temple. I could write about the meaning of Jacob to the Others' ethos and why notLocke used that information against them in Season 5. So on and so forth.

If you wanted a week of Sun, fertility issues could pop up, as well as Those Left Behind in the Real World. Pick Desmond, and determinism vs. free will could pop up. Should Locke be your collective choice, the meta-nature of his character's demise versus audience expectation could arise. I'm not mentioning any of these names to sway you; rather, I'm just trying to illuminate the possibilities inherent in any of your choices.

I've already started collecting votes over on my Twitter feed, so I'll tally those plus your choices below and announce the winner with the first article next week. I'll count your vote twice if you come up with a topic you'd like explored in relation to your character choice. Sound good? Good.

Ryan invites you to join the hundreds already in Zap2It's Guide to Lost Facebook group.

You've already dedicated a whole offseason series to Jacob and MIB with "Light vs Dark" so that probably counts them out. Perhaps you could do a week on Locke- and explore what it would mean for S6 and the Lost universe if/when our Locke ever came back from the dead for real.

They already lied to us with unLocke, so if they actually got realLocke up and kicking for S6, it has to be for something huge- and it has to make sense since dead actually is dead. But then again, Darlton's past proclamations are always subject to change- hence the possible reset/alt-Lost.

I would like to talk about Claire since she has a very important role in the Lost Universe. I am very interested to see how you think she will return from her disappearance and if you think she will be alive or dead. Which brings me to this...I was watching Par Avion last night and noticed Claire apologizing to her mother while she was in a coma. She specifically said to her mother that she was sorry she wished that she were dead meaning her mother......and then she almost dies...could this be a little of the MIB or Jacob making an appearance here like Juliet's exhusband getting hit by a bus?

Christian Shepard.

Vincent!

I know there isn't much chance of it happening, but why not be an original and devote some time to Kate? Every other blogger out there has written scads on Locke, Sawyer, Ben, Jack, etc. But Kate is so often reviled or just plain ignored. Her role on the show has been confusing at times, but IMO she's at her best when she's interacting with Sun or Sawyer, or standing up to Jack's ego mania (he literally had her hold a MIRROR up to him during his self-surgery, as if that's not a freaking metaphor for her role in his life) - and we finally saw her make a HUGE step this year when she learned how to stop running and put someone else's needs first (Aaron.) I wish an intelligent blogger like yourself would actually try to figure her out rather than just hating on her all the time.

You make a good point Sarah. Kate is definitely overlooked in comparison to the other major players and she's such a major player herself being the female lead! It would be good to hear your take on this unique character Ryan, even if it's a toughie. We did learn more about Kate's reasonings for her actions last season, so maybe it would be good to discuss Kate where she's at, at this moment in Lost time since we can understand her a little bit more...her mission back on the island, who she is as a person/character now, and her wishes etc. Would be great to read an intelligent POV with your insight into this character Ryan. Thanks.

Mr. Daniel Faraday, please. :)

Widmore.

He started as rich *******, then became the big bad guy, now we're not really sure. What's his deal?

How about Kate? She was the first character to get a flashback and since we're being nostalgic let's go back to season one and talk about her. So much has been done on Sawyer, Jack, Locke, Ben...how about the original female lead?

I'm voting Jack Shephard. Zap2It software glitch ate my post, but my argument was basically that Jack was made the central figure of the cast and for better or worse has been the glue that has connected all the characters. He's worth examining, through the good times and bad.
