The World Series brought a big audience to FOX Wednesday night -- no surprise for a matchup of teams from two of the 10 biggest TV markets in the country.

Game 1 of the Philadelphia Phillies-New York Yankees series drew 17.8 million viewers and a 10.9 rating/17 share in households for FOX. CBS (8.5 million, 5.6/9) finished a distant second with a night of reruns. ABC (6.6 million, 4.1/7) came in third, followed by NBC's 6.4 million and 3.9/6. The CW trailed with 2.5 million viewers and a 1.6/3.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 5.8 rating was more than double the average for its closest competitor, ABC (2.5). CBS and NBC tied for third at 2.1, and The CW brought up the rear with a 1.2.

GOOD NEWS for both Modern Family and Cougar Town was growth over the week-ago performances. What a “fource de resistance” those two sitcoms are becoming on weds. CBS again gave up and aired repeat programming again ABC’s powerhouse sitcome line and FOXs popular reality programming. So sad what is becoming of NBC. And now people are hope CHUCK will save this networth… Its like please it aint going to happen, no one watched CHUCK the 1st time around. By the way thanks for all the fake MEOW posts and reading my stuff… Its all about getting the word out: Exercise, go to school, have a bf, watch BRAVO and ABC… Oh Heather L back on NOV 17th to MP =-D

GLEE!!

I actually enjoy Eastwick, but I wouldn't say it's exactly setting the country on fire.
I do think this excess of praise has had very bad consequences in real life with more and more timeslots being abandoned for lack of resources stemming from too many poorly performing shows being kept on as long as they garner good press.
CBS and ABC are the only two real networks left standing at this point (and with Saturdays not being programmed I may be a little lenient) and I'd very much like ABC to remain a real network.
Praising a bad development season, while it may get journalists an invite to the Xmas party and keep those executives on the payroll another year doesn't do the long-term health of the company any favors.
Why do company boards rely more on press clippings than actual numbers, one may ask..?
I agree it doesn't make any sense, but clearly that's what's been going on at NBC, FOX, CW and to a lesser degree at ABC and CBS and the result has been few interesting shows for all and more unemployment in the film business.

I enjoyed the Monsters vs Aliens special last night. I also enjoyed Cougar Town too.

GOOD NEWS for both Eastwick and Merlose Place was growth over the week-ago performances. What a “farce d'oh repulsivness” those two sitcoms are becoming on weds. ABC again gave up and aired token weak programming again NBC's powerhouse Leno ruled and FOXs wednesday night football with the Giants and 76ers really curshed the competition.

We all agree it makes a lot of sense, and clearly that's what's been going on at NBC, MyNetwork TV, the WB and to a lesser degree at UPN and CBS and the result has been very interesting shows for all and more employment in the adult film industry.

As usual, oddly! ;), this is my first post of the day (although this board is starting to feel like a broadcast network with all the re-runs!)

In any case, the relatively good re-run numbers for CBS' comedies may be a clue as to why CBS is tolerating their bad first-run numbers.

On ABC, Eastwick grew (probably through lack of competition) and it will need more growth in subsequent weeks to be saved.

The rest of ABC's lineup showed its extreme weakness (in the midst of ABC screaming "they're all hits" to anyone who'd listen) as new episodes couldn't beat a Criminal Minds re-run (and Criminal Minds as Meow will tell you, is a show very far removed from its ratings and creative prime).

At NBC, SVU remains a rare less weak spot (as it gets The Office-type ratings without the constant hype and ads spent to try and maintain The Office above water) and Leno keeps disappointing (well NBC was expecting disappointment so they'll claim full satisfaction).

CW was its usual non-entity as Vampire Diaries showed it has no re-run legs.

As I have said before, Street Teamers I want what I post to be about the meat of the topic, not about me.

My only claim to fame is to have followed ratings for a long time. Everything I know you can know too by following the numbers and analyzing them.

I hope you'll want to do that and enjoy it. :)

Amazing that half the messages on this board seem to be from someone re-posting old posts of mine.

For the record, all the posts prior to this one weren't posted by me at all.

I still fail to see what point is served by that...

In any case...

@Rick, congrats once more for not carrying water for the networks. Wednesday is in very poor shape for all the networks (slightly less so for CBS).

ABC was very right to target that night for a takeover. Sadly, their choice of shows proved to be rather poor and uninspired and they have not gotten any success on the night.

I really don't feel the need to reply to Meow...but, first NBC owns Bravo, so you just pretty much promoted NBC there bud. Second, CBS always airs reruns a week before November Sweeps starts...
