TV ratings: 'Ghost Whisperer,' 'Medium' scare up Friday win
Fast National ratings for Friday, Oct. 2, 2009
CBS' supernatural one-two punch took a lackluster Friday night, with "Ghost Whisperer" and "Medium" having visions of total-viewer and demographics wins.
ABC didn't put up much of a fight for second place, scheduling repeats of new series "FlashForward" and "The Forgotten" against NBC's venerable but winning combination of "Law & Order" and "Dateline."
CBS averaged 7.6 million viewers for the night, with a 5.0 rating/9 share. NBC followed close behind at 6.5 million viewers and a 4.4/8. ABC lagged with 4.6 million viewers for the night and a 3.2/6. FOX pulled out 2.2 million viewers and a 1.5/3, while The CW trailed with 1.9 million and a 1.2/2.
In the adults 18-49 demo, CBS squeezed by with a 1.7 rating. NBC scored a 1.4, followed by ABC at 1.2, FOX with 0.8 and The CW at 0.7.

How much longer will FOX put up with Brothers & Dollhouse pulling in those horrible numbers?
Fox needs to cancel LIE TO ME and move DOLLHOUSE to Mondays
Hmm, something's going on with CBS Friday and it's not looking good as all three shows hover around just the 5.0 mark, which isn't that much different than last season when it aired The Ex-List at 9. Seems like CBS needs to get Flashpoint back into the night to pump it up again because maybe Medium isn't the trick it needs, after all. Everything else on the other networks was pretty underwhelming, and will somebody finally put Dollhouse out of its own misery and kill it already? How much louder do viewers have to scream at FOX that it doesn't want to see that show - till it actually achieves a 0 rating?
No they need to move Fringe back to Mondays.I don't care what they do with Dollhouse.
Dollhouse is a loser, on any day or time slot. To propose cancelling a promising show like "Lie to Me", that people actually watch, for one that no one watches, is crazy.
Wow, pretty much no one is watching Dollhouse. I mean if the only other show with a lower rating is "America's Next Top Model" on The CW then you really have a problem. Plus a repeat of a show which almost everyone declared dead before it's start (The Forgotten) has nearly double the ratings...
So the 5-night average so far looks like this:
ABC 6.2; CBS 7.8; NBC 4.3; FOX 4.0; CW 1.5.
Once the dust settles after Sunday, it looks like it'll end up for the week as being:
ABC 6.1; CBS 7.1; NBC 4.5; FOX 4.0; CW 1.5.
That's not good for ABC, which will be down a full point from premiere week, while CBS will only be off .2, NBC and FOX off by .3 each, while CW is already even with last week. This only confirms what I suspected about ABC earlier, that it can't be too happy with how things are shaping up with their new shows. Maybe Stephen McFarlane has had his day running a network, too, because he just hasn't been able to get any traction going in any fall since 2004.
I agree with everyone that FOX should have never brought Dollhouse back. It's a move that made FOX look worse than NBC and CW... Well, maybe not worse than CW! ;)
Edell, I'm not sure what you mean that Flashpoint would help CBS' Friday. Flashpoint was always the lowest rated of the three. Medium is equally rated with them.
Personally, I don't really think these numvers are sufficiant and I agree with Andy that Friday is "lackluster", and I think it's because of a lack of trying on the part of FOX, ABC, NBC and CW.
The door is wide open for them to take over that day but FOX decided to sabotage itself with Dollhouse, CW sabotages itself every day. ABC showed how devoid of product they are by running re-runs (I'm sure they'll claim that they're doing that to support their new "hits") and NBC appears content to be second with low ratings and is of course sabotaging itself every night with Leno.
YES! Medium is doing really well!
GO MEDIUM (and Ghost Whisperer, who seems to have improved greatly since its last season!)!!!
