TV ratings: 'Dancing' dominates Monday
Fast National ratings for Monday, Oct. 5, 2009"Dancing with the Stars" and "Castle" both saw their ratings grow on Monday -- although that might not last, as ABC affiliates in a few markets were airing "Monday Night Football" instead.
As things stand now, though, ABC won the night by a comfortable margin, and FOX held onto the demographic lead even though "House" took a dip.
ABC averaged 15.7 million viewers and a 10.1 rating/16 share in households. CBS (11.1 million, 7.2/11) came in second, a little ahead of FOX (10.6 million, 6.2/9). NBC was a distant fourth with 5.1 million viewers and a 3.3/5. The CW (2.1 million, 1.5/2) brought up the rear.
FOX grabbed first in the adults 18-49 demo with a 4.1 rating, beating out CBS (3.8) and ABC (3.6). Neither NBC, 1.8, nor The CW, 1.0, made much noise.

Good to see the Castle increase. Let's hope this is a trend.
Accidentally on Purpose is definitely heading into negative territory, while Heroes and Trauma are embedding themselves further into it - a black ratings hole neither one will be able to get out of. Jay Leno showed its first sign of going below the 3.0 rating mark, which is now some cause for serious concern, not that it wasn't expected to happen. House seems to be on a bit of a steady slide. The CW is slipping into worrisome numbers with its Hill-Gossip duo. The show with the only real picker-upper bright spot was Castle, doing a full rating better than last week and seemingly at the expense of Leno, which is a good thing. All else appears to be the status quo.
Just found out that some ABC affiliated pre-empted the regular lineup for "Monday Night Football," which could partially explain the ratings bump. Will have to wait and see what the real numbers are this afternoon; meanwhile, this post is updated to note the pre-emptions.
EDell, why don't you get a job at Zap2it or just start your own website? All you are doing every day is rehashing the article in your own words. Kind of repetitive and boring in my opinion.
Last week Castle episode was cool with the whole betting episode.lets hope the ratings continue to grow.....
love shows like NCIS, castle which mix humour along with drama
Castle is a great show for many reasons, but one most important is that Castle has a "normal" teenager. Very refreshing.

I don't know what you read in the Zap article, but all I see in it is their noting that Dancing and Castle were up. Everything I added in my take on the ratings isn't included in the Zap article. So where's the boring and repetitive? Besides, you can always skip what I write, you know.
EDell, I don't find you analysis repetitive. I find it refreshingly direct. :)
When you read the trades where ABC and its 10% loss of audience is constantly described as "solid" and having a great fall (or words to that matter), it's refreshing to read anything that is not dipped in hype.
While ABC will be happy of Castle's climb (and I think the idea that Leno is losing viewers to it is right), too much can be made out of it. DWTS also increased and Castle is still retaining about the same low percentage of its lead-in audience.
In other words, it's a "time slot hit" not really a hit.
About House, Hugh Laurie is a great actor, but bringing back Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison and giving them the lead for that episode was a huge mistake. Neither of them are good actors and their deficiencies were in full view yesterday. They weren't helped by David Straiton's ridiculous hack job at the helm where shaking the camera replaced actual direction. You could barely see James Earl Jones' fine performance as Mr. Straiton was so busy shaking the camera for no particular reason.
You'd think I don't like House, but it's really that I think it's one of the few really good shows out there and it's really galling when they drop the ball like that.
Back to our regular topic, CBS' Monday is in dire need of new blood (as I said earlier) and accidentally on purpose isn't it.
CW is still having its ridiculously teeny ratings (but n doubt will claim massive buzz ;) )
At NBC, Heroes clearly should have been canceled a long time ago. Trauma, as predicted is DOA and Leno keeps dragging its network into ratings oblivion.
At FOX, House is ebbing back to its so-so numbers of last year and Lie To Me is losing too much of that sliding lead-in to be considered a success.
EDell or Alan may have the numbers, but it looks to me like this year's Monday is in rather steep retreat from last year and there really isn't anything positive to talk about (although the Hollywood trades will sing a song of hits everywhere as usual!)
House was great again and BBT is the best comedy on tv
