CBS' crime dramas brought the network an overall win for the night, while ABC comedies fell in the ratings compared to last week's numbers. Not only did "Hank" and "The Middle" experience the expected drops from their premieres, but their stronger siblings "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town" lost viewers as well (although they still pulled strong adult demo numbers).

"Glee" held on to its built-up audience from last week.

CBS took the lead with 10.9 million viewers and a 7.0 rating/12 share for households for the night. ABC's fall meant that NBC pushed up to second place this week with 7.1 million viewers, 4.7/8. Following were ABC (6.7 million, 4.4/7) and FOX (6.7 million, 4.2/7) with The CW far behind (2.2 million, 1.5/2).

Once again, FOX and CBS tied for the lead among adults 18-49 with a 2.8 rating. Next was ABC, 2.3, NBC, 2.0, and then The CW, 1.0.

FOX: "So You Think You Can Dance" (6.2 million, 3.9/7)
The CW: "America's Next Top Model" (3.3 million, 2.2/4)

18-49 leader: "So You Think You Can Dance" (2.5)

9 p.m.

10 p.m.

CBS: "CSI: NY" (12.0 million, 7.9/14)
NBC: "The Jay Leno Show" (5.7 million, 3.9/7)

wow... looks like people are getting tired of the boring old shows on cbs and turning to abc and fox. modern family and cougar town are so funny and well acted, cant wait till they hit syndicationa nd weatwick would be a great show after desperate housewives. again cbs was boring, same old crime shows, its like people get a life hit the gym go see a movie, go to dinner then watch the abc comdies to unwind, dont waste 3 hours watching boring cbs shows.

Why don't we see the ratings for the late night shows? Right now, more than ever, I'd LOVE to see what the ratings for Letterman, Conan, Kimmell, etc. are.

Modern Family is one great show. It really hit it's stride in the 3rd week. I don't even go for sitcoms but I checked this out because of Ed O'Neill. I am constantly laughing all show long. Hope it really catches on.

I've already abandoned NBC for all time because they always cancel the shows I like. (Life, Journeyman) I'm about one canceled show (Dollhouse) away from being done with FOX.

We'll have to see. Pretty much just rent or buy my shows now after they've finished their run so I know I'll never get left hanging.

Glad to see the ABC ratings already falling after last week's premiers. Tried watching them last week and just found them to be lacking in laughs. The Middle was 'ok', but the others were just sort of 'Meh'. Thank goodness CBS has a decent lineup on Wednesday.

ABC should be REALLY worried about Eastwick. I couldn't even beat the lame Leno show. Hahahhaha prepare for cancelation...

It would have been nice to know Matt Dallas(KyleXY himself) was on "Eastwick". So other than CBS' cop dramas, did anyone really win?

Well, that's a surprise, Mercy winning its time slot, but still with an under 5.0 rating. The wednesday 8 pm hour doesn't seem to snaring many viewers as they're clearly not finding anything there to be mad about. Criminal Minds continues with its usual lobsided win at 9, while both Modern Family and Cougar Town deflate again. And then there's Eastwick, which has hit the skids and looks like it'll be a goner soon, especially when Leno actually beat it. The one I think that still deserves a stay of early execution is The Middle, but where else it can go is a problem. That's what happens when networks lock themselves in with too many hour-long and two-hour shows, they create no maneouvering room for promising half-hour ones to try to thrive elsewhere.

I think "Modern Family" is the funniest show on TV! It reminds me of the CBS cancelled show "Worst Week" which I thought was also funny but only lasted one season. Let's hope ABC has faith in "Modern Family".

"Glee" is getting really good and I'm glad it's getting the audience it deserves.

NBC: Granted Leno might be cheap to produce, but how can you come in last almost every night and expect to get out of your slump? The only thing NBC has going for it besides "The Office" and "30 Rock" is "The Biggest Loser".

Looks like people were tuning into NBC more than Fox and ABC last night. NBC needs a big hit like The Cosby Show to turn them around like back in 84. They had a better lineup back than but shows like Remington Steele and Knight Rider benefited from Cosby as people started watching all NBC then.

I think The Middle is hysterical - I guess maybe you have to live in the middle of the country like I do to appreciate it.

I'd like to watch Modern Family but it's on at the same time as SVU, so chances are slim.

I'm STUNNED that Mercy did so well; that show is absolutely terrible!

meow, I think insulting people who watch CBS (or anyone else for that matter) is really inappropriate. :(

But your analysis is not entirely unfounded. :)

As I have said many times before, CBS is winning with shows that are long past their prime, but the fact that it does is an indictment of the abject weakness of the competition. Johnd hit the nail on the head there. :)

Wednesday is now a disaster area ratingswise with CBS shining only by comparison to an ocean of mediocre ratings.

EDell is entirely right that 8pm doesn't have anything that's working at all, but look for NBC to say "we're winning!!" when in reality all the networks are big losers in that time period.

Speaking of that time period, it still baffles me why CBS keeps running those mediocre comedies at 8. It reminds me of FOX keeping 'Til Death on forever in spite of its bad ratings. What is it with those star-driven comedies that lead executives to forget to look up the ratings?

Glee may be stabilizing, but it is stabilizing to bomb-like levels. Essentially it dropped to cancellation territory right off the bat and FOX is trying to explain that it's really good that it did that...

Steve got it right that by not taking advantage of those five time slots NBC has curtailed its ability to find new hits, and consequently failed to find any this year.

Boy, this is a depressing night for the TV industry. :(
