stevewozniak_dancingwiththestars_s8_240.jpgQuestion: Wasn't there supposed to be a chimpanzee on "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday?

Answer: Yep, but PETA persuaded the show's producers not to use the segment. The show announced Monday that a chimpanzee would appear on Tuesday's results show to help predict the winner of this season's competition.

Following the announcement, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals requested that executive producer Conrad Green reconsider. The bit in question had former contestant and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, ESPN fantasy football expert Matthew Berry and a chimp taking shots at predicting the winner. PETA sent the show material, including a video narrated by actress Anjelica Huston, explaining issues involved with using great apes in TV and movie productions, Elizabeth Snead at The Dish Rag reports.

Green was swayed. He expressed regret for having used a chimpanzee in the shoot, adding that he would re-edit the segment and "be sure we don't do this again in the future."

The prediction segment did air, but with a little girl joining Wozniak and Berry in making predictions.

The full story is at The Dish Rag.

Oh, geez!

FFS!!!!

You have got to be joking me! Why on earth would they even consider using a chimp in the first place? And just for clarification, how does PETA classify this as unethical treatment? Just wondering :)

the only thing that would ever make me watch this show, and PETA, vagitarians, take it off, there so crazy and make me so mad

Why does PETA have to stick it's nose in where it's not wanted?

Thank you Conrad Greene for understanding that abuse and exploitation are part of the use of these animals in entertainment. Only with the continued good examples by the entertainment media will the general public become educated about this issue.

I've been a fan of DWTS since the very first season and I was very disappointed when I heard on Monday that the Tuesday results show would include a chimpanzee. Most people don't realize that those cute/funny apes they see on tv or in the movies have been taken away from their mothers to be taught to perform. After just a few "profitable" years, they are too big and difficult to manage and many end up in very sad circumstances - and they can live into their 50s. So thank you, Conrad Greene, for doing the right thing. Maybe others in show business will learn from your example.

Why can't the People for the Ethical Treatment of PEOPLE shut down some reality shows instead? The fact DWTS is even still on is cruel and unusual punishment to the intelligence of mankind.

That's a great idea for a contestant next season. I hear Michael Jackson's Bubbles is in a nursing home somewhere. He'd make a great partner for Karina.

I don't know why people are so down on PETA. I mean, I've been a member of People Eating Tasty Animals my entire life...
