anthonyhopkins_thewolfman_290.jpgCan we go ahead and name "Thor" the classiest superhero movie ever made? What, you need more? Bam! How about Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin? That's not mythology, Jack.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Hopkins has joined Shakespeare lover Kenneth Branagh's comic-book adaptation as the All-Father, king of the Norse gods. That should officially put to bed the rumor, started last June, that Brian Blessed had been cast in the role.

(Frankly, though, we think Blessed's booming voice would have made for a fun Odin.)

Also on board are Chris Hemsworth as the title character; Natalie Portman and Jaimie Alexander as his human and Valkyrie loves, respectively; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; plus Stellan Skarsgard and Colm Feore in unspecified roles.

There's been no follow-up as to the rumored Robert DeNiro and Jude Law appearances, so we're filing those firmly in the rumor category.

"Thor" has a tentative release date of May 20, 2011.

Amazing how The Fanning is turning into a mini-Portia Di Rossi (if that's how it's spelled, don't really care if it isn't), which is not necessarily a good thing.
