The CW forges ahead with pilots from 'One Tree Hill' & 'Veronica Mars' creators

markschwahn2.jpgAll those silly rumors about The CW going under?

Without merit.

The netlet, coming off a so-so fall season launch -- with disappointing numbers for "Melrose Place" and the week 2 cancelation of "The Beautiful Life" tempered by the success of "The Vampire Diaries" -- is pushing forward full-steam ahead, with a hefty development slate planned.

"One Tree Hill" creator Mark Schwahn has two projects in the works, including "Spy School for Girls" -- about female spy trainees at a CIA facility -- and "Nashville," which revolves around two young singers trying to reach stardom. Country singer Brad Paisley will co-write and executive produce it with Schwahn.

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas is writing and executive producing a soap opera titled "Plymouth Rock." Set on board a space ship, the young travelers will be searching for another planet upon which to procreate and preserve the human race.

"The L Word" creator Ilene Chaiken has been tapped to adapt Alloy Entertainment book "Confessions of a Backup Dancer" into a one-hour drama exploring the life of dancers on the road with major pop stars.

Other projects in the pipeline include "The March Sisters," loosely based on "Little Women," "Bitches in Britches," a soap set in the equestrian world and an untitled drama about a New York socialite from Robert De Niro's Tribeca Entertainment.

So Rob ".000" Thomas is getting yet another order from a network.

How many bombs must the man produce until the networks realize he has never produced a single hit?! (of course doing Gossip Girl on a spaceship after doing Gossip Girl in Beverly Hills is certain to deliver the exact same results!) :(

Also, the "success" of Vampire Diaries is quite relative. It's only a "success" because it has failed less badly than the rest of the CW lineup.

UGGHHH!!! There was already the horrible "Hills" ripoff called "Nashville" that lasted 2 weeks. I've lived in Nashville and there is SOOO much more than the country music industry - they export that stuff. If a series is ever going to be truthful to the city it would expose all the surprising diversity that makes it so interesting and my favorite progressive city. That would be a show to see.

MELROSE PLACE is the only thing going for this network - it's a great show, the numbers will grow once people start realizing how great it is.

Veronica Mars did alright for its run, Ms. Moretti; seems like a hit to me. In fact, I'd recommend bringing it back in some fashion.

Vampire Diaries, meanwhile, fares much better when DVR usage is factored in; it's among the Top 10 such programs.

Is it wrong that I am excited about "Plymouth Rock"?! Yeah, maybe a little bit!

Melrose place is great. People really need to start watching.

No Rob ! You are too good and talented for the most crappy network that is the CW !!

The CW doesn't learn.

Anything to do with pursuing stardom and the non-interesting backstage look at the lives people who dance and sing won't fly!

Over at FOX, "Glee" is a success because they're in on the joke of all the cliches of a show like that -- the CW shows ARE the joke. UGH!

I loved Veronica Mars... I'll take anything from Rob Thomas. I still mourn Body Politic. Boy were they dumb to let that one go. Melrose Place barely draws 1 million viewers... how is it still on the air???

Veronica Mars had higher ratings than MP, 90210, Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill. But yet they cancel it. Good Call CW
