Steve Phillips fired from ESPN

ESPN has fired baseball analyst Steve Phillips following the revelation of his affair with a young network staffer -- and Phillips says he's checking into a rehab facility to sort out his personal life.

The network says in a statement that Phillips, a former New York Mets general manager who worked on "Baseball Tonight" and called some games, "is is no longer working for ESPN."

"His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways," the statement reads.

Phillips' firing comes a few days after his affair with Brooke Hundley, a 22-year-old production assistant, became public. Phillips, who's married and has four kids, says he and Hundley had a brief fling during the summer and claims that when he broke it off, Hundley harassed his wife and posed as a friend of his oldest son online to get information about the family, according to a police report Phillips filed. Hundley allegedly told Phillips' wife, Marni, that "we both can't have him."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Phillips says in a statement that his client is "voluntarily admitting himself to an inpatient treatment facility to address his personal issues, and informed ESPN of his plans Friday."
