Casting Call: Stellan Skarsgard summons 'Thor'; Fred Thompson rides 'Secretariat'
Swedish star Stellan Skarsgard has signed on for a Norse epic by way of America.
The "Angels & Demons" actor told Swedish publication TT Spektra that he'll have a role in the Marvel comics movie "Thor," according to a translated report on ComingSoon. Skarsgard won't reveal exactly which role he'll play, though he did say he wasn't an easy catch.
"They wanted me to sign without reading the script," Skarsgard told TT Spektra. "That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy,"
Skarsgard's son Alexander, star of the HBO vampire series "True Blood," was up for the title role. "Star Trek" co-star Chris Hemsworth eventually won the spot.
-- Fred Thompson is headed back to acting after his unsuccessful presidential campaign. The "Law & Order" actor will co-star in horse-racing biopic "Secretariat," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Thompson will play racing league president Bull Hancock opposite Diane Lane's role as the famous horse's owner. The former senator was a Republican candidate leading up to the 2008 presidential elections, but was passed over in favor of John McCain.
