'Southland' inches closer to TNT
A deal that would move NBC's cancelled series "Southland" to TNT is looking more like it's going to happen, but nothing is in place yet.TNT has been in talks with Warner Bros. TV (both are part of Time Warner) to revive the crime drama since soon after NBC pulled the plug two weeks ago. The Hollywood Reporter says "it now appears likely" that the show will move to TNT, although Deadline Hollywood notes that NBC and TNT are still haggling over money.
It's pretty rare for a series to change networks, but it's happened with unusual frequency in the past year or so. "Scrubs" hopped from NBC to ABC last season, and this season has seen "Project Runway" move from Bravo to Lifetime and "Medium" go from NBC to CBS.
What's still not clear is just how much "Southland" TNT will be getting. The show aired seven episodes last season and completed six shows this fall before NBC shut it down. That adds up to a cable-sized 13-episode season, and there has been speculation that TNT will air those 13 shows and see how it performs before committing to any more.

It's times like this I wish I had cable. I really, really liked this show. Its well written by John Wells who brought us ER and the characters are interesting.
Now I'll hope at some point, NBC will change pull their tiny heads out of their tiny butts and put this show back on the schedule where it was supposed to be in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now all TNT has to do is bring back Las vegas and we're all set.
It looks like the parent company is putting pressure on TNT to pick this up or political reasons.
What TNT needs in a hit to replace (or team with) The Closer. Southland is clearly not it and will only take a spot where TNT could try a new show.
@ rena - political reasons? Im confused, what do you mean by that?
It's interesting that ALL of the shows that have switched networks were all from the NBCUni umbrella of channels. They seem to have a difficult time holding on to their shows... even though they have few hits to speak of in the first place. That place is a WRECK!!! Southland would be a great addition to TNT.
It'll be a long time before TNT needs a replacement for The Closer. It's still the #1 show on cable. They are looking to broaden the amount of original programming they air, not to replace anything. This would fit in well because TNT "knows Drama".
I liked TNT better when Ted was running it, and we got westerns and Civil War movies galore.
Knows drama? Knows wretched cop shows.
So really...there isn't any news here. Same story as yesterday
P.U. Bring back LIFE!!!!!!
