No more 'Trauma' for NBC

anastasiagriffith_trauma_290.jpgUPDATE: NBC clarifies its position below.

NBC is giving its freshman series "Trauma" a do-not-resuscitate order.

The network is planning to let the show's 13-episode order play out for the rest of the fall, but that will be it for the medical drama about San Francisco paramedics. The network isn't using the worded "canceled," but a rep confirms that it's also not ordering any more episodes.

Five episodes of the show have aired so far. The remaining eight episodes will likely hold down the 9 p.m. Monday timeslot through the fall.

The news of "Trauma's" impending demise doesn't come as a big surprise. The show was left out when NBC announced pickups of its other new series, "Mercy" and "Community" (as well as second-year comedy "Parks and Recreation"), last week, and it has struggled in the ratings this season.

"Trauma" is averaging about 6.2 million viewers per week and a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49; both are the smallest for any of NBC's new scripted shows. The show was also more expensive to make than the other newbies. Add to that the fact that NBC had always planned to share timeslots anyway, and it adds up to goodbyes for the show.

The end of "Trauma" could possibly make way for the newly expanded season of "Chuck" to debut in January rather than March. NBC also has a couple of unscripted shows ("The Marriage Ref" and "Who Do You Think You Are?") it could use to fill short-term holes in the schedule; official word on the network's midseason schedule will likely come soon.

Not surprising, since the show was loud, the characters obnoxious and the scenarios already done to death. Next!

YES, Bring back CHUCK early and give it a FULL SEASON..

Good to read you AaronR. :)

My question is why can Trauma and not can Mercy, Parks, or Chuck.

It's not like they have better ratings...

NBC needs to clean house, and rebuild almost from scratch. The more it delays doing this, the harder it will be to climb out of the hole Jeff Zucker dug for it.

Look at ABC, which wisely tried a bunch of new shows. They didn't pick well, but at least did the right thing strategically and it will take them a while for the strategy to pay off.

CHUCK! awww man, Trauma was good wtf

I agree with Rena NBC needs to clean house like ABC did. Keep Jay Leno but give it one night. Keep Chuck,Community,The Office,The Biggest Loser and Football get rid of the rest.

Put Jay Leno on Saturday nights only for 2 hours (9-11) and regular dramas back Monday-Friday. Not only will that give us back a lot of new shows, but it will give us 1 network actually programming Saturday nights again.

Is Parks & Recreation as good as the Office or 30 Rock? No. Is it still better than 90% of sitcoms on CBS, ABC, Fox, CW, TBS, Lifetime, et al? Absolutely.

Trauma was not even close to being realistic, too many wrecks and catastrophes even for a large city, no plot

Trauma was almost impossible to follow. There was no understandable thread holding it all together, no characters to relate to, and quickly changing scenes that never felt real. A drama with no drama!

Trauma just seemed like a updated version of Emergency from the 70's
