NBC scales back 'Day One'
NBC's midseason series "Day One" has just become NBC's midseason miniseries "Day One."The network is cutting back the order for the show, which focuses on a group of survivors of an alien invasion. What was initially planned as a 13-episode series will now air as a four-hour miniseries, Variety reports.
The show will still premiere in March, following NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics, and will still get a promotional push during the Games. There's still a chance that "Day One" could be picked up to series (a la "The 4400" or "Battlestar Galactica") if it does well in the ratings, but cutting back the order now saves money up front.
Creator Jesse Alexander seems OK with the decision. On his Twitter page, he writes that the Variety story is "not as bad as it sounds." Inside that story, he also says the network has kept him up to speed on its decisions.
"I've been in discussions with the network for some time about the best way to launch what I truly feel is an awesome television program," he says.

Can you say CXL on NBC before it even airs as a series? Anytime you have a series getting their episode order cut means bad news for the show overall and the way NBC is going now, they're just desperate for anything to stick now.
If NBC is not investing in it, then neither am I.
NBC picked up their wallet and went home. Can't spin that any other way.
Perhaps this is related to the potential sale of NBC?
all this means is they have little to no faith in the show...
The way I see it, reducing it to 4 hrs, to start with, increases the chance that a lot of people who would not necessarily want to commit to a whole season will check it out, and probably like it! I think it's a smart move, and I think the show will take off. It looks awesome!
