Mandy Patinkin transplanted to 'Three Rivers'
Emmy winner Mandy Patinkin is returning to CBS, but he won't be solving crimes or healing sick people. Or, as far as we know, singing. The former "Criminal Minds" and "Chicago Hope" star will make a guest appearance on the network's new medical drama "Three Rivers" later this fall. He'll be playing an ALS patient who, after a car crash, asks to be taken off life support so others can use his organs.
Patinkin is a transplant recipient himself. He underwent corneal transplants in both eyes in 1997 and '98 to correct keratoconus, a condition in which the cornea is misshapen and severely impairs vision.
CBS hasn't set an airdate for the episode yet.
Patinkin won an Emmy in 1995 for his role on "Chicago Hope" and was nominated again in 1999 (he also earned a guest-acting nod for "The Larry Sanders Show" in '96). He starred on CBS' crime drama "Criminal Minds" for its first two seasons and has recently played Prospero in a New York production of "The Tempest" and has done a series of concerts with his "Evita" co-star Patti LuPone.

I will always remember him as the guy who gave out assignments on Dead Like Me!
Don't forget the Princess Bride: "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die" repeated incessently. Also loved the sword fight scene with the farmboy.
He is the best in Princess Bride and Dead like Me, my favorite character in both shows.
All of the characters on Dead Like Me were great, but Rube without a doubt was the glue that held them all together. His presence was sorely missed in the movie.
Seriously though Rick, how can you make mention of Mandy without saying a word about Dead Like Me or The Princess Bride? That's just criminal. (Or lazy. Since it's zap2it I'll go with lazy.)
Interesting storyline.
I doubt the show will even make it that long. If it isn't cancelled in the next 3 weeks I'd be surprised...the ratings have been horrible.
Too bad he isn't staying, it might make the show watchable.
Rube! that was his name. lol. And he most definitely was the glue.
Rick, I have to take issue with the headline for this article. A "transplant" is where something is PERMANENTLY placed into something else -- you don't transplant a heart into a patient for a day or two; it stays for as long as it works.
Reading the headline to this article, I immediately assumed that Mandy Patinkin was becoming a regular on the show.
Now I know that's being picky, but the degradation of the English language by people on the Internet is a serious concern for our society.
That said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rube, George, Daisy, Mason and Roxie (and Delores and Kiffany, too), as they were the heart and soul of the greatest television series ever made, so I welcome any appearance by any of the actors.
Good actor, but likes to bail out on shows.....
