'Lost' releases first season 6 promo, tells us nothing

lost_s6promo_290.jpgThe first teaser for the final season of "Lost" is live ... and of absolutely no help in telling us anything about the new season.

Now, I get that a 16-second promo whose intent is solely to remind viewers that the show is returning in a few months is not going to give away the farm. And given the game-changing event that occurred in last season's finale, the show certainly doesn't want to tip its hand as to how the new season kicks off.

But seriously, ABC, throw us a bone here. Give us something, anything -- heck, I'd settle for even a slightly more specific return date. I already know it's returning in 2010; could we maybe get a month attached to that?

Alas, no. All we get is a montage of characters' faces and a quick glimpse of a couple important events -- the plane breaking up, the turning of the fail-safe key in the hatch -- and ABC Promo Guy intoning that "it's the beginning of the end," followed by Jack talking about destiny.

Seeing this lame teaser doesn't diminish my excitement for the final season of "Lost." I'm still counting down the days, however many there may be, till its return. But it doesn't make me any more excited either -- and that's what promos are supposed to do.

Have a look for yourself.

Since its impossible to "unjump" the shark, lame teasers are all that's left.

First kudos to Rick for pointing out that the Emperor (I mean the promo) has no clothes. :)

This article does bring up the point that maybe the hype is doing less and less to help shows because it is more and more empty.

Hyping something that has substance can bring in huge results, but hyping emptiness doesn't (although The Office's ratings do show you can get a couple million viewers more than unhyped shows of the same ilk).

The endless hype of Twilight is another great example of way too much hyping something that perhaps would be better off standing on its own. The avalanche of empty hype signifies to me (and perhaps to many other people) that there isn't much substance to it.

Certainly, the networks have clocked amazing losses by hyping ratings failures endlessly.

They are aiming at the perception of success instead of the reality.

Sadly for them (and for people who are out of work in the industry as a result) you can't bring hype and buzz to the bank.

patience - the one thing all LOST fans must have.

just give it some time...there's bound to be more promo clips in the next few months....

I don't need to be hyped by a promo to get excited for LOST I personally would rather be left in the dark it makes for a much better viewing. By now either your a LOST fan or not no amount of promos will change that no matter how much whining Rick does about it.

When is it back ? the same time it always returns the end of January, where have you been ?

W ... Rena ... know it all.

Wow Rick, way to feed the troll--ERRR!!!--your biggest fan, Rena Moretti. The woman who has the answer to every question that was NEVER F***ING ASKED!!!

Justin, you rock!

There won't be any new scenes in any of the upcoming trailers, which is to be expected. It's impossible to show scenes from the new season without giving away what happened after the bomb exploded.

Enjoyed seeing some skate in the promo. Gives me hope.
