jessicasimpson_290.jpgOn this past Sunday's broadcast of the Cowboys game, FOX ran a cartoon calling Jessica Simpson fat. They have now apologized, though not to Jessica Simpson directly. Video of the cartoon below.

The cartoon featured caricatures of RB Marion Barber and TE Jason Witten having the following exchange:

Barber: I still can't believe Tony dated Jesscia Simpson, even after she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams.
Witten: Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts

Ouch FOX. We already have size 4 models fired for being "fat," do we really need to pile on Jessica Simpson?

Burger King was the presenting sponsor of the skit and FOX has issued an apology statement (via the Dallas Morning News) absolving BK of any culpability. "Burger King did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp., approved it before it aired. Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended."

We love how they apologized to anyone who might have been offended. Like Jessica Simpson? Perhaps you could apologize to her personally?

Carrie Underwood and Candace Crawford better watch their waistlines.

What's unfortunate is that their football related jokes--at the expense of Tony Romo and Wade Phillips--are actually funny. The Jessica Simpson ones were just mean and unnecessary, and I say that as someone who has always found Jessica Simpson and the media obsession with her quite annoying.

since when is a size 6 fat!... poor thing she has been battling weigh issues for years... some yoga will do her good, relax hera nd get her back in even a better shape.

I could care less about the football players or Jessica Simpson, what angers me is that FOX thought that making fun of someone's weight was actually funny. I notice that is seems to be ok to make fun of women who put on weight but not men.

Paul, when someone mentions Marlon Brando, it's either to make a fat joke, a crazy joke, or a sex with butter joke. Fat people get made fun of, irregardless of gender, weight or ethnicity.

The sad thing in this country is we make excuses for fat people. As if it's something that should be rewarded. No wonder we're the fattest country on the planet. Fatness is not a disorder. It's pure laziness. Fat people who are fat due to genetics, make up less than 10% of the fat population. I see nothing wrong with shining a light on that.

People in this country have a right to get as fat as they want. I have the right to make fun of them as much as I want, too. It works both ways.

Classy move, Fox, calling her fat. Cornelius-Picking on people says much more about you than it does about the person you're harassing. Grow up.

Jetta I get what you're saying about America's statistics and agree, we eat too much garbage and there's little or no exercise. I don't think it's okay to harass overweight people though. And Jessica is not in the obese or overweight range that you're referencing. She is not overweight to begin with.

I saw the cartoon and thought it was tasteless. I couldn't believe that they would air something like that and was surprised with the use of Barber, Romo and Wittens names. Must have made them proud to be associated with something showing so little class. Glad you are all perfect~!
