Dreamworks picks up 'Wicked' book series

wicked_290.jpgCan't get enough of the supernatural?

Well, apparently neither can Hollywood.

Remember lions, tigers, and bears? Now it's vamps, werewolves, and witches...oh my... all the time.

Or so it seems with Dreamworks acquiring the rights to "Wicked," a series of young-adult novels that centers on a young woman who learns of her witchy ancestral past while crushing on a warlock from a rival coven, according to Variety.

The main character moves in with her aunt and cousins after her parents are killed in an accident. Soon her grief is sidelined by witchy occurrences, much like Bonnie in "The Vampire Diaries,"  like watching her thoughts come true.

The books, by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie, will be adapted by brother scribes Aaron and Matthew Benay. No word on casting or directors yet. But you can bet another set of young talent will be made if the first flick goes as well as "Twilight" did.

Do you think we've had enough of the supernatural stories?

Man, I guess I'm out-of-touch. Reading the headline, I thought it was referring to the Gregory Maguire novels (WICKED, SON OF A WITCH, A LION AMONG MEN).

I've never even heard of a series of young-adult novels called WICKED. Maybe because it's been a long time since I was a young adult...

Surely no for me since I love supernatural stories. I've seen The Vampire Diaries and hope this one is better. Looking forward for this. Thanks for the quick review about it.

I read these books when they came out and remember really liking them. But then again, I read/watched nearly everything supernatural then. I don't think I could pull that off today, there's just so much more out there! Love it!

At first I was skeptic to read the books but then I found out I'm hooked with the story. It's a good read.
