The cable network announced Wednesday that it has picked up the comedy series by Jonathan Ames for a second season.

The show centers on a fictionalized version of Ames (Jason Schwartzman) who's blocked when it comes to writing and turns to his whimsical dream of being a private investigator. Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis also star.

"'Bored to Death' offers a unique combination of noir mystery and neurotic humor that has been an instant hit with critics, while the audience for the show is growing steadily," says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo.  "I'm delighted that we can bring the show back for another season next year."

Approximately 4.1 million have viewed the pilot episode of "Bored to Death," which has also gained an additional 500,000 from digital platforms like iTunes.

The second season will begin production in 2010.
