'Being Human' turning American for Syfy
Syfy is joining the werewolf and vampire TV bandwagon. The cable network has ordered 13 episodes of the BBC show -- remade for American audiences -- about a vampire, werewolf and ghost who are roommates, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Yes, it sounds kind of goofy, but the British version has handled it as a drama, examining the angst of living as a supernatural being.
"It turned out great as we can now do an American version," Syfy president Dave Howe says. "We've always been keen on vampires and werewolves, and we loved the originality of 'Being Human,' the fact that the fantastical creatures in it are very young, accessible and charming."
Will you watch? Any fans out there for the BBC version?

So Siffy is remaking a BBC show that turned boring after the third episode...
Makes you wonder how bad it's going to be... ;)
I've not seen the original, and it sounds like a good concept, but I tend to hate Americanized versions of Brit shows.
I really enjoyed the British version on BBC America. Too bad there were only 6 episodes, although I hear a second season is in the works. I'm not sure if an American version will work, but I'll watch.
i just saw the BBC version over the weekend and it was good, cant wait for the Syfi version.
they should save the production costs and get the episodes of Torchwood...
Thought the British version was pretty good and am anxious to see Series 2 of the Brit version. Don't think it's really necessary to "Americanize" it -- though that's worked out for "The Office." Next SyFy will Americanize "Primeval."
Interested in several programs on BBC America, but refuse to watch them as apparently they have to be censored for us overly sensitive Americans [sarcasm]. Noteworthy examples are Skins, Hex and The Graham Norton Show. What's the point of premium PAY FOR channels and putting it late 9-10pm if your going to chop it. Quit self censoring.
As for recent "country" remakes, I agree that Life On Mars, as well as 11th Hour were better as the original BBC version, and not the Americanized. However, Showtime's americanized Queer As Folk was very good; however, sho is uncensored, giving it plenty of leeway.
Being Human is a really good show. A lot of the BBC lineup is smarter than many of the American shows. However, when America tries to do them over, they usually fail. Even "The Office" isn't as good as the original. Remember the "Coupling" fiasco? Oh well. Love Being Human from ENGLAND, not the US.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed the BBC version considering how much I hated Charmed and the vamp dramas du jour.
I think it was because they had fairy taut scripts that kept things moving and had very good luck with the cast chemistry.
I watched the British version this summer and I liked it as well. I hope there is a second season on its way.
If so, not sure I'd watch an American version, especially if they're the same episodes and/or tamer versions of the originals.
