'American Idol' brings back 'Idol Gives Back' in 2010
The 9th season of "American Idol" will see the return of the mega charity event "Idol Gives Back" after a year-long hiatus from the show."Idol Gives Back" took a year off in 2009. The show's producers said earlier this year that they didn't want the event to lose its impact by asking people to donate every year, especially in a suspect economic climate.
"Idol Gives Back" will be back on April 21, 2010, which will be the results show for the Top 7. This year the event will benefit Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More and Save the Children as well as the United Nations Foundation.
"In today's tough economic times, it's more important than ever -- but more difficult than ever -- to raise money to help those in need," says Mike Darnell, FOX's head of alternative programming. "With this season's 'Idol Gives Back,' we're focused on raising awareness about the challenges that so many children and families currently face and demonstrating how even small donations can make a difference and help save lives."
So far "Idol Gives Back" has raised more than $140 million, which is being distributed by the Idol Gives Back Foundation.

Why doesn't Simon just donate a nice big chunk of his salary and then we can have a regular "American Idol"!
I'm glad to see they did. In my opinion, it's been the best tv music event over the last few years. It almost made me call and give money!
