'Vampire Diaries': Jasmine Guy joins the series as Bonnie's grams

Whitley Gilbert is a witch.

Well, Jasmine Guy's "A Different World" character was probably accused of being a witch on many occasions, but the actress will now play one for real.

The CW confirms that Guy has been cast in "The Vampire Diaries" as the grandmother of Bonnie (Katerina Graham), who turns out to be a descendant of a whole line of warted ladies.

Sort of cool, no?

Though we're not sure Jasmine Guy, at 47, is really old enough to play the grammy of a teenage girl, we're definitely glad she's returning to TV. It's been too long, Ms. Gilbert. Too long...

I LOVED her as Roxy on Dead Like Me and I'm looking forward to seeing her as Bonnie's grandma.

My first thought was, "poor Jasmine...she's not old enough to be teenybopper's grandma!" It's bad enough she once played Hally Berry's mother (at least there was a timeshift).

This is as odd as Sherri Appleby playing the mother of a 16 year old on Life Interupted. Seems like it was just a few years ago Sherri was playing a 16 year old on Roswell. TV sure can make the viewer feel old.

Wow! I loved Jasmine Guy as Whitley, she was my favorite character on that show. You have great taste Korbi, post more Melrose Place stuff pretty please!

Jasmine Guy is one of my two favorite actresses..the other being Debra Messing (I hope they work together someday). Jasmine was'nt on the Thurs. 10/22 episode of Vampire Diaries (the first one I've seen). Hopefully she'll be on more often. Also, on the new Melrose Place, it would be great if they had her return as Caitlin...I think she was more exiting than Heather Locklear and many of the other actors on that show in the '90s. Whitley Gilbert and Debra Messing's Grace Adler (Will&Grace) are two favorite sitcom characters of mine. Loved Jasmine as Roxy in Dead Like Me and Kathleen in Touched By an Angel.
