'V' split: ABC's alien takeover partly deferred till spring

morenabaccarin_v_290.jpgThe aliens on "V" can't seem to compete with the less-puny humans in the Olympics.

ABC confirmed to the LA Times that "V" will premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 3 as scheduled, but after the first four installments are aired, it will go on hiatus.

Why? Well, there's the little thing called the Winter Olympics. ABC keeps touting the revamp of the '80s miniseries as an "event" and plans to relaunch sometime after the gold medals are handed out.

Of course, the buzz in Tinseltown hasn't been so sanguine since production on the show was previously shut down for a fortnight, a possible sign of creative rejiggering.

The first three episodes of the 13-episode order have been shot, with the fourth one shooting in mid-October. Then, hiatus. An official relaunch date has not been announced.

Why do they do that??? What genius put the show on the air then take it off for MONTHS??? The executives get paid $$$$ and then make stupid decisions like the above!

That is why I don't watch much Tv now.

Why don't they just can it now? This is the problem with moves like this. New shows start, they start to gain some fan base, disappear for months, then networks expect the same viewers to come back too. How many more shows have to go down the drain following this pattern (Life on Mars most recently) before they realize it's a bad move?

I guess ABC really did learn nothing from the writers' strike. Momentum is everything, and hiatus equals death for all new shows.

The networks are run by idiots.

Not very wise. Might as well just wait until after the Olympics. Doesn't ABC remember what happened when they did this with Lost.

Stupid idea. They should just launch the whole thing after the olympics.

What a BAD idea... they have'nt learned anything for past mistakes. When a new show is forced to take a long hiatus, it is the kiss of death. Example...Hot Shots, Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Dasies to name a few. How can you ask viewers to give a new show a chance, when just as your getting into it, it dissapears for who know how long. BAD IDEA ABC

I agree, DO not start a show for a month than take it off, as much as i was looking forward to it , i properly DVR it and watched it all when it comes back , if it does,

ABC You screw up some great shows in the past, Men in Trees, Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who, and even Lost , , some of the best shows are TV

I agree its a bad idea they'll lose viewers and the show will be cancelled. Why cant execs learn from past mistakes? Children can.

But if the buzz is good, it can help make it a hit. It worked for Glee. (Maybe Glee isn't a hit, but I got a lot of buzz over the summer)

Good. This whole project is a disaster waiting to happen. The real stupid decision here was not to postpone; it was to green light in the first place.
