almichaels_sundaynightfootball_290.jpgFast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009

The first "Sunday Night Football" broadcast of the season scored big ratings for NBC on Sunday, while the late-afternoon games on FOX helped "King of the Hill" to a decent-sized audience for its series finale.

Numbers for NBC and FOX will change some because of their live sports coverage, but as things stand now NBC ruled the night with 15.5 million viewers and a 9.4 rating/15 share in households. FOX (7.7 million, 4.6/7) came in second. CBS (6.2 million, 4.0/6) was third, while ABC came in fourth with 4.5 million viewers and a 2.7/4. The CW drew 1.2 million viewers and a 0.8/1.

(Ratings for the Video Music Awards on MTV should be available later in the day Monday.)

NBC also led among adults 18-49 with a 6.2 rating. FOX grabbed second in the key ad demographic with a 3.4. CBS took third at 1.6, followed by ABC, 1.3, and The CW, 0.5.

One has to applaud ABC for its fortitude in finishing the run of Defying Gravity. In the summer, little, if any, damage was done. At least for once fans weren't disappointed.

This time zap2it is telling me that I posted "too many posts in a short amount of time" when I didn't post anything yet!!!

This really needs to be fixed, or even better, bring the board back to Topix!!

TNT's Leverage finally popped up in the Cable Top 20 with 3.5 million viewers. For a network that has shown it can get close to 10 million with The Closer, it looks disturbingly like HBO's pattern after they failed to capitalize on The Sopranos' success by hanging on to under-performers.

ABC did not finish out the course of Defiying Gravity. They shot 13 episodes and have aired just 8. I feel they need to atleast run the last 5 or release them online so we can finish what was a great show. Too bad they never hyped it the way they are doing "flash forward". I feel that too will fall by the wayside as "invasion" "journey man"

Maybe the board is now psychic and can see regular contributors coming from a mile away. "Oh, crap, not that Aaron, OCGirl, Alan, Rena, etc, tag team again. No soup for you!"

Then again, maybe this board has just gotten infested with gremlins. And I've gotten this idiotic "too many comments" message as well.

Except that ABC hasn't and won't finish the run of Defying Gravity. While they continued to run it longer than expected considering the poor ratings, several unaired episodes remain.

I knew there would be fireworks at the VMA but chose to watch the Bear anyway. I'm proud of myself.

Scott and Oz, I stand corrected.

It's actually strange that ABC started that show without having the time to finish it on-air. Is it what they call "planning to fail?"

AaronR, It actually looks like the board is bugged in some way as being told I'd posted too many messages before I'd posted one raises eyebrows. ;)

Everyone please, stop casting that sad supposed Robert Urich alike (that went wrong) - in anything at all. He isn't worth a line as an under-five. Not even a background extra.
I can't even think of his name.

If we are forced to watch sexually provocative openings during Sunday night football, my family will no longer be watching......Please reconsider and follow the Monday night opening example.

Listen to the man who directs the Sunday Night Football games, Drew Esocoff. He talks about working with John Madden, hopes for Cris Collinsworth, and covering last year's Super Bowl:
