The premieres of "FlashForward" and "Grey's Anatomy" dominated Thursday's ratings, topping CBS' "Survivor"-and-crime drama lineup and taking a good-sized bite out of NBC's comedies.

FOX (7.3 million, 4.6/7) finished a distant third. NBC (5.3 million, 3.4/6) came in fourth, and The CW trailed with 3.2 million viewers and a 2.0/3.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC's 5.8 ratings was more than two points better than that of second-place CBS (3.7). FOX took third in the demo with a 2.5, followed by NBC at 2.2 and The CW at 1.4.

With all the really good shows on, I can't believe those stupid comedies got any viewers at all!

I thought last nights episode of the Mentalist was the best I've seen. I hope the show continues to do well.

I can't really explain why, but I'm glad to see that ABC has some shows to put it back on top at least a couple nights a week...
I'm not really a fan of Private Practice, but I *really* hate The Mentalist, so I'll definitely be watching ABC next week too!

office suxx

Grey's is the same soap opera every week. Are the two doctors going to marry or not? Are they going to move in or not? Of course Izzy was going to survive, they said she was staying on the show this summer. She had to stay on the show. How many romantic comedies can one person be in? Same story every week.

Summarizing: CBS had to deal with some solid competition from ABC, but really, it’s only first night jitters. Grey’s Anatomy tends to do better than CSI at the start of the season but within a few episodes, CSI manages to nip-and-tuck or even surpass it the rest of the season. But it doesn’t look promising for Survivor as it begins to show some early signs of viewer disinterest. The Mentalist, meanwhile, is certainly bound to regain its numbers once Private Practice returns next week. NBC, I see, is losing whatever little tiny steam of ratings heat it had in the 9 pm hour as both The Office and Community especially took a dive. Meanwhile, ABC’s FlashForward scored well enough, but at 7.7, that really doesn’t indicate instant hit status in the way The Mentalist did last season when it debuted with a 9.9. I expect FlashForward to eventually settle down to somewhere between a 6.0 and 6.5 range. Fringe, on the other hand, is floundering. I think a better move would’ve been if FOX had scheduled Fringe after House on Monday and Lie to Me following Bones on Thursday. I only say that because I want to see Fringe succeed, after its second episode snapped the series back to life after a moribund start last week, and I couldn’t care in the slightest about Lie to Me. The CW looks like they’ve got a solid performer for them with The Vampire Diaries as its numbers are holding steady, and actually, it’s not a badly done show for what it is and who it’s aimed at. And Jay Leno appears to be solidifying his numbers as being in the mid-3.0 to 4.0 or so rating range for now. The rest is not much to speak of. Comparing last night with the first Thursday of last season: ABC was down from 10.1 to 9.8, CBS up from 7.2 to 8.5 (because last season it aired a 2-hour Survivor followed by a CSI repeat), NBC down from 4.6 to 3.4 (comedy Thursdays just isn’t working for that network anymore), FOX up from 2.8 to 4.6 and CW down from 2.4 to 2.0. Total-wise, the night got a 27.1 last year and 28.3 last night.

Fringe took a fall, I certainly hope Fox was expecting that against the competition they put it up against.

The Vampire Diaries is a great show, it all ready has loyal fans, and Supernatural is great also, it's well written and the actors are great in it. Greys anatomy should be no match for ratings, I think alot of people are tired of the hospital shows. After checking out Flashforward, thats like modern day Lost , and i don't know about you, i don't like being lost on a show with no answers.

okay, Its not a good thing, when your going to promote a show, and you put everything in the commercial that was good about the show, what a dissapointment. Flashforward is a rip-off of Lost and the cancelled show The Nine. I will be surprised if this show last too much longer. I mean seriously, who wants a another show to confuse you, plus it was actually a dissapointment. I am glad i recorded it and watched the better show in that time slot, The Vampire Diaries.

Oh well. At least, Survivor, my favorite show, actually registered gains in households and viewers from its season premiere last week (that is, if the numbers hold up).
