Tila Tequila accuses NFL player boyfriend of battery
As the NFL's preseason comes to a close, one player is accused of throwing a wicked block... on reality star Tila Tequila.
Tequila called San Diego sheriffs to boyfriend Shawne Merriman's house at 3:45 this morning, claiming he had "choked and physically restrained" her, according to TMZ. After she signed a citizen's arrest warrant, the San Diego Chargers linebacker was taken into custody for battery and false imprisonment.
For his part, Merriman (via a lawyer) claims he tried to stop Tequila from going out because she was in his estimation too drunk. A sheriff's department spokesman confirmed during a press conference that Tequila had been drinking.
The Chargers are so far keeping a neutral stance, based on a statement from general manager A.J. Smith: "It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shawne Merriman. We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."
