Superman Tom Welling bets on a black costume for 'Smallville'
We won't get to see the Dark Knight on "Smallville"... well, ever, so will you settle for a black-clad Superman?
Tom Welling is sporting a very Batman look -- or Neo, if you prefer; the resemblance is definitely there -- in publicity stills of Supe's new threads for "Smallville's" coming ninth season. Screenrant was good enough to dig up the evidence.

Frankly, we like our Batman dark and our Superman as the annoyingly colorful Boy Scout. Why go with a black duster and a chalk-smudge symbol when he'll just wind up in the tights anyway?

I agree...black for the Dark Knight, red/blue for Supe...Red/Blue blur! Need to bring back Martha Kent to make his costume after he ends up naked since his clothes aren't indestructible.

Tom Welling is smokig HOT....
Well...they have flirted occaisionally with black costumes in comic book canon but Supes always goes back to the red & blue look. And we have to remember that last season ended with Clark deciding to 'distance' himself from his human attachments. The black costume could be seen as an outward manifestation of that decision.
Clark wears black when he's Kal-El and I'm sure it's just part of the pre-Superman thing. They've said a hundred times Clark isn't Superman in Smallville.
