'My Boys' and '10 Things' will be back
A pair of cable comedies got good news over the weekend: TBS' "My Boys" and ABC Family's "10 Things I Hate About You" will both be back next year.TBS has ordered nine episodes of the easygoing "My Boys" to air in 2010. The show has never been a really big ratings draw for the cable channel, but it has managed to grow its audience in each of its three seasons; the third season posted an 11 percent improvement over season two in TBS' target demographic of adults 18-34.
It's also a heavily DVR'd show. TBS says the seven-day ratings for "My Boys" grow by 52 percent in total viewers compared to live numbers, and the 18-34 numbers jump by better than 70 percent.
"10 Things," meanwhile, performed well in its summertime run among the channel's core audience of teen girls and young women, winning its time period against all cable competition in women 12-34 and 18-34. It also beat broadcast competition among female teenagers.
ABC Family has ordered 10 more episodes of the show, which is based on the 1999 movie of the same name (which, in turn, was based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew"). The news was not as good for the channel's other summer comedy, "Ruby and the Rockits"; ABC Family decided not to pick it up.
