But what's up with "Melrose Place" gay, Matt? Leighton's real-life husband, Doug Savant of "Desperate Housewives," who portrayed Matt -- one of the very first openly homosexual series regulars on TV -- has been approached.

Who wouldn't want to go from a highly rated show on a major network to a basically "cable" network with the hopes of attaining a 0.5 in any sellable demo? Hell, it only took him 7 years to get a second series. Maybe Hillary Swank will do 90210 too.

But... Matt was ALSO killed! In fact, his off-screen death paved the way for one of the least-likely events in MP history: Matt's diary containing Amanda's dark confessions ... like Amanda would ever have confessed anything to Matt! She hated him! :-)

Matt was indeed killed, but if I remember correctly, it was an off-screen death that we only HEARD about, and it was a year after Doug had left the show, so it wasn't a huge deal. And, of course, clearly, no one on Melrose ACTUALLY dies. All deaths are fake. Pretty sure that's part of the MP mythology ;)

Um, if Sydney can come back from the dead, I certainly think Matt can (we didn't even *SEE* him die). Hell, if Michael Mancini can help Sydney fake her death after being hit by a car, he could have easily helped Matt fake a "death" with no real bystanders observing. I'll bet Matt witnessed a mob crime, and had to go into the witness-protection program...Michael probably helped to orchestrate the cover story of Matt's "car accident."
Really! Couldn't agree more with JT HUTT (see below). Why on EARTH would Savant leave DH now for Melrose? That's like asking Marcia Cross to return as well. Remember her on MP? Maybe they can just 'borrow' him as a guest star for a few episodes.
