Maura Tierney quits 'Parenthood' for cancer treatments
Maura Tierney's illness has caused her to pull out from work. The actress has dropped out of NBC's upcoming drama "Parenthood" because her breast cancer treatments are causing a scheduling conflict with the show's production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive," says Tierney's spokeswoman. "She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."
Recasting is underway.
Tierney, 44, revealed that she was undergoing surgery and other treatment for breast cancer in mid-July. At the time, she had planned to only take an eight-week leave from "Parenthood." The show shut down production at that time and moved its premiere date to midseason to accommodate her since she plays one of the lead adult siblings on the family drama based on the 1980s film of the same name.
"Mercy," a medical drama centering on nurses, was pushed up to the fall premiere date.

Not that I blame NBC for this decision to recast, but without Tierney, I have lost interest in this show and I will have to take it off my "Must See" list. I wish Ms. Tierney a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her return to acting.
Maybe now she will return to Rescue Me where she belongs!
She'll always be the best producer on WNYX. Get well.
I agree, the only reason I was going to watch Parenthood was for Maura Tierney. But how can you blame NBC? Unfortunatley I wont be watching now though
This is very disappointing.
Although she was a major reason why I was excited for this show, I still intend to watch as the show is being done by the same people that do Friday Night Lights and that is one of the best shows on TV.
I wish her all the best and hope she makes a full recovery.
I don't deny that this makes me sad, however. :(
ooh, ooh Mare Winningham would be a great recast
I was also going to tune it to the show for Maura, as I am a big fan of hers.
I just hope she gets better soon.
Yeah, she was awesome on Rescue Me. That was a pleasant surprise...
Yes, I saw the pilot, and she really was the best thing about it. She had lots of heart and good comic timing. I felt the show was more grounded with her in it.
My heart goes out to her. She was often the only reason I would watch 'ER', and she was going to be the only reason I watched 'Parenthood'. I was excited about seeing her in a comedy again (I miss Lisa Miller a lot); I hope she gets well soon and finds some joy for herself and us!
