Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Pink: An MTV Video Music Awards roundup

kanyewest_taylorswift_290.jpgLady Gaga kept the audience asking "dude... what?" during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but it was Kanye West whose brief appearance had people talking.

When Taylor Swift took the stage to accept the prize for Best Female Video, Kanye stormed the stage to indicate his displeasure at a perceived slight toward Beyonce.

"She made one of the best videos of all time!" Kanye told the crowd before heading offstage. After a few moments' confusion, including repeated starts and stops of a pre-recorded Tracey Morgan skit, Swift and her award also left the stage to perform in the subway (and on the street). See for yourself...

That said, Beyonce killed with her own performance (of "Single Ladies") later in the show. She also won Video of the Year for the same song, and while Kanye (also up for the same award) didn't rush the stage again, Beyonce did invite Swift back out.

ladygaga_290.jpgLady Gaga, meanwhile, got off to a weird start by hitting on Kermit the Frog in a getup that included what seemed to be a haute couture neck brace, and then performed a "Phantom of the Opera"-inspired rendition of "Paparazzi" that ended with her bloody body hanging from the set.

Her strangeness didn't end there. Gaga came to the stage wearing a red superhero-y mask and crown to accept the award for Best New Artist.

Finally, Pink got into the craziness by dressing in a bodysuit with a strategically placed heart over her left breast and put on a circus trapeze show. By then, the audience was too desensitized to blink.

when I hear the word 'nigger' spoken I always think of kanye west -- I'm glad his momma died, was butchered, hope she suffered, I hate kanye west, what a true nigger

While I think what Kanye did was horrible, what you're saying kanye fan isn't much better. using a racial slur to make the point that someone acted like a jerk does nothing more than make you look like a jerk. Grow up.

Kanye behaved like an ass and hopefully his fellow musicians and the music industry will finally put him in his place. Having some talent doesn't excuse poor manners and bullying behavior. I may like his songs, but he's such a jerk that I won't buy them anymore.

I agree with Kare - kanye fan - NOT, you are a jerk yourself for saying the N word and you are allowing people to see how negative and ignorant you are. While Kanye is an asshole, there is no reason to bring race into his outburst. You and Kanye both look like jerks.

Kanye is a jerk.

KANYA WEST IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BIGGEST ASSBAG, NUTLICKING, DOUCHE THERE IS!!

I was glad to see taylor perform so well after that blow from kanye, but also that beyonce showed more class in her pinky finger than kanye ever has in his entire career. By letting taylor go up on stage with her, beyonce showed us why she had nine nominations. Way to go ladies! Keep up the great performing and receiving awards!!!!!!! Can't help but notice that kanye did not get any awards, it's called Karma!

Taylor Swift is so much more talented than kanye ever will be...he is such a douchebag.

Ummmm wow! Ok this is just sad....now its a race issue...smh....I just dont know what to say....Kanye was wrong..Im white but this is not a race issue...

This is not a racial issue. Kanye is just a rude person that has no class. Let him go on with his pathetic life and embrace the star Taylor will become. I am sorry every problem has to turn in to a "black and white issue." Color is just that, color. We are made of the same thing underneath. Kanye is just a shitty person that has to check himself into an AA meeting!
