FOX opts for 'Glee' instead of Obama
FOX will depart from its network rivals Wednesday night by sticking with its regular lineup instead of airing President Obama's address to Congress on health care. The network has chosen to stick with airing the season premieres of "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Glee" rather than carry the president's address at 8 p.m. ET. ABC, CBS and NBC will all carry the speech, as will PBS and the cable news channels. The CW, which doesn't have a network news division like the big three or a cable news sibling like FOX, will also go with regular programming, the season premiere of "America's Next Top Model."
FOX would have had the most to lose by pre-empting its regular lineup. "SYTYCD" and "Glee" are two linchpins of the network's fall schedule, and FOX has poured a lot of marketing into "Glee," its only new hour-long series of the fall. CBS and NBC would otherwise have repeats in the 8 o'clock hour, while ABC, which will devote two hours to coverage and analysis of the speech, will only lose an episode of the modestly rated "Crash Course."
FOX made a similar call not to air a presidential news conference in April.

Good for Fox. Be nice if the rest of the networks would get it through their thick skulls that their news divisions are essentially obsolete and leave such things to the cable news channels. Given that I've been griping about this since around, oh, 1981 or so, I doubt the networks will change their way of doing things anytime soon, but one can always hope.
Good for FOX. We have a multitude of news & C-SPAN channels for promotional speeches. This is NOT a national emergency situation which would be different. Give us a break. I voted for the man, but too much prime time TV is not a good thing for a politician. It doesn't pay to tick off the public who are paying outrageous cable TV fees to watch their programs.
I just hope he doesn't run over and affect Glee's ratings. I'll be flipping at 9:00 sharp regardless.
Hooray for Fox!
i voted for obama but like with politicians coming to church on a sunday morning to do paid political announcements, there's a time and place for everything, and primetime and church ain't the time for politicians. go FOX. i'm watching GLEE. whee hee.
what type of world do we live in that does not carry the presidents message...if they could carry BUSH...then what the hell...OR MAYBE YOU'D RATHER BE IN HELL!!!!!!!thanks channel 5 for showing your TRUE COLORS
I can't wait for GLEE!!! Why would I watch the presidents speech anyway, its not like if I agree or disagree with what he says anyone would listen to me in Washington anyway.
Anytime Fox decides not to attempt reporting the news is actually a victory for the country.
Fox is failing in it's duty for use of the public airwaves by not carrying the President's speech. It not some Oval Office speech but a joint session of Congress, which means it's highly important news. Telling everyone to go to Fox News and Fox Business is also wrong. It drives more people that thinks Fox actually offers news to their cable channels helping to pad rating for their coverage. Also unlike FOX, their cable channels can slant the news even more than the Fox Network because they aren't controlled by the FCC to properly inform the nation else face penalties.
great. keep america dumb. way to go fox!!!!
