Emmys 2009: What should win best comedy series?
The consensus among Emmy prognosticators is that "30 Rock" is likely to win its third straight Emmy for best comedy series on Sunday. But it's not a complete lock. Here's why: There are seven nominees in the category this year, which means that any of them could win with as little as 15 percent of the votes cast. When the bar for victory is that low, it wouldn't take a ton of votes to sway the outcome one way or another and produce a big upset. There's also the chance (albeit a really slight one -- "Frasier" won five years in a row, after all) that voters will just want to change things up this year and honor another show.
OK -- even as I typed that last sentence, it started to look ridiculous. But the thing about not needing many votes to cause an upset? That could still potentially happen.
If I were a one-man TV academy, this is how I would rank the nominees. I don't necessarily think this is how it will go on Sunday -- I'm with the consensus that says "30 Rock" will probably win -- but I'm playing favorites here. As was the case with the comedy and drama acting polls earlier in the week, you can have your say in the poll below and the comments.
"The Office": If the Emmys judged series nominees by a full season rather than just the six episodes submitted for voting, "The Office" should win. The writers and cast kept the quality consistently high last season and freshened things up enough with the Amy Ryan and Michael Scott Paper Co. arcs to make me care about things nearly every week.
"30 Rock": The defending champ had its ups and downs, particularly in the stunt casting-happy first portion of the season. At its best, though, no show has a higher laugh-per-minute ratio.
"How I Met Your Mother": I'm glad to see "HIMYM" finally get a best series nod, and I have a tremendous amount of affection for the characters. That said, I don't think last season was its best, and I don't think enough members love it enough to make it a serious contender.
"Family Guy": It's already earned some measure of recognition by virtue of competing for best comedy, not just best animated series, and if fans within the TV academy are as hard-core as those in the general population, it has a shot. But I don't quite see it getting the top spot.
"Flight of the Conchords": It wasn't as consistent in season two as it was the first time around, but "Conchords" can still give me the giggles just thinking about it. That said, it's probably the longest shot of all the nominees.
"Weeds": There are still several things to love about this show, most notably the performances of Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon. Mary-Louise Parker, however, has started to wear a little thin for me, and as she's the central figure in the show, that's a problem.
"Entourage": No.

Actually I think The Big Bang Theory should win. But it's not on there. So Family Guy is the one I would pick from those choices.
Who voted for HIMYM? I thought only old people watched CBS. FG and The Office are the only two shows up there that deserve it. 30 Rock has won enough and it still doesn't get the ratings. Not may people will watch this show, because it's always the same; there should be a three cap win on best show and then you're done. It gets too repetitive if the same mediocre show wins year after year.
This definitely wasn't the best season of HIMYM, but I still want the show to win to increase it's buzz and get more people watching!

where is Big Bang Theory?!
Season 5 of The Office may have been its worst, and the last season of Family Guy can't compare with the first 4 the show had.
Of those nominees, 30 Rock is still my winner.
Colleen -- CBS has long since stopped being the place for only old people. It is their reputation but it is an unfair, inaccurate and unfortunate one.
That having been said, "How I Met Your Mother" should have long since been a nominee and potentially a winner.
I love the simple 'no' for "Entourage" but the strength of the show is Jeremy Piven.
"Weeds", "Family Guy" and "Flight of the Concords" are lucky to be nominated.
"The Office" squeak as the last non-"30 Rock" winner but I am predicting a three-peat for the latter series.
30 Rock is possibly the funniest show since Seinfeld, though at their peaks Arrested Development and Scrubs could hold that mantle.
However, I belive that HIMYM is actually a better show, even if this wasn't it's best Season.
Family Guy was once histerical, is now only as funny as it is annoying. Weeds never did it for me. Enterouge is a great chill show, but has absolutely no substance whatsoever. The Office and Flight of the Concords are both good shows, but neither are winners in my book.
No, not everyone loves Family Guy. It's annoying and repetitious and maybe if they killed of Lois and Peter, I might be able to stand watching it. Stewie and Brian just aren't enough.
30 Rock is another show I am sick to death of. It doesn't have a huge viewership because not everyone finds Alec Baldwin hilarious. And while I love Tina Fey, Liz Lemon annoys the piss out of me. And can HIMYM just die now?
UMMMM? Really? 30 Rock has no competition except for The Office. Entourage and Weeds don't stand a chance..I love HIMYM but even I know it doesen't warrant a Best Comedy nod. Family guy is funny, but not as smart as 30 Rock. Big Bang Theory should be nominated and then 30 Rock could have been worried.
I LOVE the office and 30 rock
but HIMYM deserves it more, its got a GREAT story and is hilarious and deserves some recognition.
these last 2 seasons of Family Guy have been some of the worst things on TV and Big Bang Theory is funny, really funny at times, it doesn't really seem like a show that deserves an emmy
30 rocks gonna win again
