Diablo Cody may snark up 'Sweet Valley High'

diablocody_290.jpgDiablo Cody put high schoolers through Hell in the horror flick "Jennifer's Body." Now she may have a sweeter take.

Universal is in talks to gain the rights to Francine Pascal's "Sweet Valley High" series of young adult novels with the intention of installing Cody as writer for the film versions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade says Cody has already prepared a treatment for her take on the books, which prompted a bidding war that's also sucked in Fox 2000 and Mandate.

Pascal's series follows twin sisters Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who during the series' 20-year run went from junior high school to college. The sisters ran into a number of typical teen misadventures along the way, from cheerleading competitions to boy troubles.

Cody broke through with another high-school tale, 2007's "Juno," which won accolades for its characters and sarcastic dialogue.
