Barack Obama to Letterman: 'I was actually black before the election'

barackobama_davidletterman.jpgBreaking news on "The Late Show with David Letterman" last night: Barack Obama announced that he was actually black before he was elected.

This little bomb was dropped by our nation's 44th President when he stopped by "Letterman" to make a bit of small talk, but more importantly, to discuss his plans for the country and some of the opposition he's facing.

Dave wanted to know, does Obama believe that the controversy surrounding his various political proposals -- namely health care reform -- is a result of racism?

Apparently not.

Watch the clip below to see the always smooth Barack handle Letterman's queries in a stride, with humor and humility.

Oh, and he's also talking about Sasha and Malia's summer
.

See for yourself...

So, any thoughts?

Glad to see Letterman visit with the President since Leno got him last spring?

Who's next? Kimmel?

I mean, ABC didn't air "So You Think You Can Dance" during Obama's address a couple weeks ago. Seems only fair to give Jimmy a crack at the Pres too...

20 years ago, he could be funny. Now he is just pathetic. Old and tired.

Sooo much better than Leno!

That was a fun show to watch last night and Obama was funny and interesting to listen to (much better than some of his recent attempts on camera).

Leno must wish he could be 10% as interesting and entertaining as Letterman.

Nice write up and I enjoyed the video. I think Letterman still has it unlike a previous comment. He actually listens to the guests before cracking the jokes which some interviewers just don't do as they are too busy finding the next funny line.

The show was very entertaining and enlightening.

I'm glad Obama is our President.

I don't think this is as much about how he did on Letterman as the fact that he was on there at all. At what point did the president become just another talk show guest? I hated that all the candidates were on talk shows, SNL, etc. Shouldn't the office have more dignity than this?

Uh.... Maybe ABC didn't broadcast So You Think it Can Dance a couple of weeks ago because it is on FOX

Yes, I'm well aware of what network SYTYCD is on. The point is that Obama's camp supposedly has beef with FOX for airing SYTYCD instead of his address... I guess you didn't hear about that.

While Pres. candidates going on SNL does seem to detract from the integrity of the office, I think Letterman is an acceptable forum for a candidate or official to appear. In addition to giving us a glimpse at the human side of our Pres, the Letterman show is unique amongst the late-nights in that Dave actually asks interesting, and in some cases challenging questions. He can be charming and chatty with a guest, but he's also not afraid to put them on the spot to get answers.

Mel said, "Shouldn't the office have more dignity than this?"

Unfortunately, the average American does not care to watch CNN, C-Span, or even Fox News, for political coverage. When a president wants to speak to as many people as possible, he'll go on shows that the average American watches, like late night talk shows, comedies, etc. It's a sad state of affairs, but the majority of the populous has general malaise when it comes to political matters. I credit the President's staff for finding new ways to reach a broader audience.
