'American Idol' winner Kris Allen debuts single 'Live Like We're Dying'

krisallen_americanidol_heartless_290.jpgThis morning on the Elvis Duran Show in New York, "American Idol" winner Kris Allen debuted his song "Live Like We're Dying." Audio below.

"Live like We're Dying" is Kris's first single off his debut album, which hits stores in November. It's a cover of a song by The Script and is exactly what you'd expect from Kris. A crunchy, acoustic coffee-house rock vibe, very Jack Johnson or John Mayer.

The album is as-of-yet untitled, but the interview and single are on the Elvis Duran site if you'd like to check them out! Lyrics to the song below plus audio in a YouTube video.

Live Like We're Dying

Sometimes we fall down, Can't get back up
We're hidin' behind skin that's too tough
How come we don't say I love you enough
Til its too late.... its not too late

Our hearts are hungry for a food that won't come
But we could make a feast from these crumbs
And we're all starin' down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you what would you wish you would have done

Gotta start

Looking at the hands of the time we been given
If this is all we got then we gotta start thinkin'
If every second counts on the clock thats tickin'
Gotta live like we're dyin'
We only got 864 hundred seconds in a day
To turn it all around or to throw it all away
Gotta tell em that we love em while we got the chance to say
Gotta
Live like we're dyin'

And if your plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbye
Should be so careful who we let fall out of our lives
Or when we long for absolution there'll be no one on the line

You never know a good thing til its gone
You never see a crash til its head on
Why do we think we're right when we're dead wrong
You never know a good thing til its gone

Great Song! I loved it! Kris Allen is going to be a big--big STAR! Playing it over and over. Can't wait for the cd.

WOW! That is one dull single. Couldn't it be any more bland and inoffensive? Sure it'll be a big hit - it's going to be on Starbucks playlist before you can blink.

Like Kris, don't like the song.

Love it! Can't wait for the album.

the best song ever from our new american idol winner.. as in ever compares to the past single of american idol winner. @ Laura kelly you must stick to adam gay faggggoooot side.. bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Didn't like it at first, but as it got to the end of the song, it grew on me. I don't understand why his first single is a cover, though. That just seems... well, silly. Isn't the point after Idol is to make your own music after doing weeks and weeks of covers on the show?

It's EXACTLY like The Script's version, he didn't change a single thing about it! He even copied the original singer's vocals. Weak.

Love Kris' new single. Kris is amazing and has a beautiful voice. The haters need to crawl back into the woodwork. This song was given to Kris by The Script. I think it's a great compliment to the band that Kris did not change the style of the song, Kris does give it his own sound. Look at the publicity for The Script, smart move on their part. I absolutely love this song.

I really love Kris' new single. It's so catchy, so him, and just great music. I can't wait to see what else he comes up with.

~every second counts on a clock that's ticking, we gotta liiiiive like we're dying~

I have never heard the original so I won't/can't make comparisons, but I'm not crazy about this version.
