ABC picks up 'Secret Millionaire' from FOX

secretmillionaire_290.jpgABC has snatched up the rights to the unscripted show "Secret Millionaire," which had a brief run last season on FOX.

The show follows wealthy people who go undercover in economically depressed areas and give some of their money to people in need. It did reasonably well for FOX last year. The network aired six episodes over a two-week period in December and averaged close to 7 million viewers.

FOX, however, let its option to pick up the show pass earlier in the summer, and producer RDF USA took the show to ABC, the showbiz trade papers report.

The Alphabet has ordered six more episodes of the show, which should fit in pretty well with ABC's feel-good style of unscripted programming (a la "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," "Dancing with the Stars" and "Supernanny"). No airdate has been set.

Seems to fit with ABC more than FOX which goes for the raunchy shows more often.

What is up with FOX latley? Secrect Millionaire was a great show with millions of viewers...so what does FOX do?
They let it go, to air what you may ask, ohh that's right, the dating show with fat people called More to Love, a boring show with dozens of viewers...good move FOX.

I agree. My guess is ABC will move EM:HE to 7pm ET on Sundays (since it is getting a bit old in the tooth) and maybe put the Millionaire show on after it at 8pm. Maybe they'd switch it around, but, I'd think they would want to try to launch something new that will have some legs.

ABC kills off quality shows by the dozens, yet it will pick up a loser of a reality show from another network?

Idiocy reigns supreme...

ABC needs to contact me!

the concept is unquestionable however having the millionare dressing up to deliver the money is tacky. They should deliver the funds in the same dress as they first came in. To be dressed to the nine's is not right nor genuine in the pure sense of the word.

Secret Millionaire is an amazing show. Having successful people 'pay it forward' gives us all reason to help others when we can, if there is not room for network to make money off this type of programming then we are all in trouble...

I had previously never heard of this show. With so much bad reality tv, I would have watched this the first time around. I think the show is inspirational. The most inspiration part is not the millionaires, but the everyday people that selflessly help their fellow man kind. I agree the "reveal" portion on the 2008 re-runs was awkward, and edited poorly. Also, I agree that it is almost offensive that the millionaires dress up and jewelry down to "reveal" to the people they genuinely want to help. In the theme of 'Intervention', there should be a follow up inteview with the recipients reflecting how much the money was able to help(instead of watching the rich folks meet their families at home driving up to their mansions). I am sure that ABC will give the human factor to this show for example the episode in Watts, where the millionaire's wife, told her story of violence. Hopefully the overhaul of the show will present more of this.

"I am a woman. I need someone to cherish and love me," sings Cixi to her lover Rong Lu in the production that tells the story of Deling, a girl born into Chinese nobility, but educated in the West, who is chosen to be a lady-in-waiting for Cixi. Deling is worldly wise and her outgoing personality stands in sharp contrast to the depressing stiffness of the Forbidden City.
