'Twilight' director: Bryce Dallas Howard was our first choice

Brycedallashoward_terminatorsalvation_290 The hits keep coming for Rachelle Lefevre: Now, we learn she wasn't even the first choice for her "Twilight" role.

Catherine Hardwicke, director of the first "Twilight" movie, tells the Los Angeles Times' Dish Rag that Lefevre got the role of villainous vampire Victoria because it was too low-profile for their first choice... Bryce Dallas Howard.

Howard, of course, has replaced Lefevre on "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," setting off a war of words between Lefevre (who claims she was fired for working on a side project) and Summit Entertainment.

See pictures from 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon.'

If what Hardwicke says is true, then Summit may have been more than happy to find an opportunity to recast the role of Victoria with their original choice. Howard certainly can't say the blockbuster series is too small any more.

I liked Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria regardless if Bryce Dallas Howard was the first choice. Rachelle Lefevre did a great job. I liked the wild hair, and her voice.

Hey, Harrison Ford wasn't the first choice for Indiana Jones. It was Tom Selleck. I don't think I need to say anymore about this subject.

I think Rachelle owns this role, and I think viewers will be picturing Rachelle in the role of Victoria especially if Bryce Dallas Howard doesn't deliver. It is a bad break for Rachelle because I know she has been in the business a long time, and it looked like she finally got her big break, and then it is taken away from her by Summit Entertainment executives. Talk about a low blow.

In addition, I would also feel the same way if Summit Entertainment would have re-cast the role of Jacob. To me Taylor owns that role.

Anyway, this is Twilight Saga - Eclipse. First I have to see if I like Twilight Saga - New Moon before I make a decision on watching Twilight Saga - Eclipse so the re-cast may be a moot point.

More empty hype from Twilight...

Who cares who was the "first choice"?!

Who cares what bad director Catherine Hardwicke thought? She clearly can't chose actors anyway..!

Just gets uglier.

The Indiana Jones comparison is bogus. Selleck may have been the first choice but no one saw him on screen in the role, did they. Rachelle will be seen in 2 Twilight movies as Victoria and then replaced in the 3rd. Not cool.

I've heard of actors being replaced the day before a movie began filming. I've heard of actors being replace after filming had begun. Unless someone died or wants out badly, I've never seen someone replaced after they have already appeared onscreen in the role.

leslie, Katie Holmes was replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight.

Harrison Ford replaced Alec Baldwin in the Jack Ryan movies.

Lots of other examples. Happens very frequently on t.v.

It's funny how people take "Twilight" so seriously and get worked up about every little aspect of it. I much prefer Anne Rice's vampires/vampire world, now THERE is a woman who can write a great vampire novel. At least her vampires don't sparkle and are a more true to what vampires would/should be like.

Don't worry Rachelle, you're too good for them anyway!!

I love the idea of sticking to how a true vampire should be, how do you know? Is there something out there that the rest of the world doesn't know, since when can you be factual about something that is so fiction. Fantasy in a form is great, if your fantasy sparkles then who are you to judge. That is why we love fiction, it takes away, makes us use our imaginatin and see pictures in our head. The way you interpet the workds are all up to you.

Wow, leslie must be so mad she isn't thinking clearly.

@leslie. My point I was making about the Indiana Jones comparison was Harrison Ford wasn't the first choice for Indiana Jones just like Rachelle Lefevre wasn't the first choice for Victoria. Do you see where I'm going here?

Tom Selleck was the first choice for Indiana Jones just like Bryce Dallas Howard was the first choice for Victoria (according to Catherine Hardwicke). So, at this point in time, Tom Selleck nor Bryce Dallas Howard have been seen on the screen in the roles that they were considered as first choice. Harrison Ford OWNED Indiana Jones just like IMHO Rachelle Lefevre OWNS Victoria. I agree with you on replacing Rachelle is not cool; however, I disagree with you on the Indiana Jones comparison being bogus.

Rishi has taken care of the second paragraph in your comment. However, I will state that I liked the first actors that appeared in the roles stated in her (Rishi's) comments, which supports my point (and the Indiana Jones comparison) -- Rachelle OWNS Victoria, and Summit Entertainment did her wrong.

If the role wasn't high-profile enough for her the first movie they shouldn't cast her for it now. It doesn't matter that she was their first choice. She p***ed it up, I think it should have been her loss.
