'The Breakfast Club': John Hughes' most quotable movie

Juddnelson_breakfastclub_290 The headline is not a statement we take lightly -- you could easily make an argument for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Sixteen Candles" and even "Weird Science" as the Hughes movie with the most best lines.

But for my money, it's "The Breakfast Club," which made a huge impression on my 13-year-old mind and still stops me when I come across it on television. Though I no longer call anyone a "neo-maxi-zoom-dweebie," the movie's language has stuck with me for most of my adult life. I haven't been in a fight since I was a kid, but I still find ways to work "Two hits: Me hitting you, you hitting the floor" into joking conversation. "Fix me a turkey pot pie" too.

There are many, many more -- "Demented and sad -- yet social." "Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?" And, the one that leads off the clip below. It's just one word, and it's all in the way Judd Nelson delivers it: "Cah-laire?"

Just in these two minutes, at least three great lines. It's a quick way to see why John Hughes occupies such a big place in my fellow Gen-Xers' hearts.

I will miss his keen sense of teen angst. It shall never again be matched. Good Journey, Mr. Hughes. The 80's NEVER would have been the same without you.

Amen, amen, AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, I'd trade the entire script to 'The Breakfast Club' for one "Bueller?.... Bueller?"

Admittedly, I felt like a neo-maxi-zoom-dweebie through most of high school.

Nice tribute. I can appreciate your love of Breakfast Club, but for my money, it's 16 Candles! :)

I have to agree with Rorschach.

"Bueller?...Bueller?" is still part of my vocabulary all these years later.

I am very sad that a great screen writer john Hughes has died.
