News roundup: 'The Game' back on?; NBC wants a 'Lawyer'

Thegame_290 The CW canceled "The Game" at the end of last season, but the show may have a chance at suiting up for a different team.

BET has been talking with the show's producer, CBS TV Studios, about reviving the series, which follows the girlfriends and wives of pro athletes, for a fourth season, The Hollywood Reporter says.

A revival of the series still has several obstacles to clear before it becomes a reality -- including re-signing the show's cast, whose deals ended after The CW let "The Game" go as part of a move away from making half-hour comedies. Series creator Mara Brock Akil (who's now working on ABC's "Cougar Town") pitched an hour-long version of the show to The CW, but the network passed.

BET already runs repeats of "The Game" and the show from which it was spun off, "Girlfriends."

NBC has ordered a pilot from the two writers who won Bravo's "Project Greenlight"-like competition "Situation: Comedy."

The show, called "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer," is a dramedy about an attorney whose frequent panic attacks keep him from trying cases. Instead, he turns to advising people about how to represent themselves in court.

Andrew Leeds and David Lampson, who won the "Situation: Comedy" contest in 2005, wrote the script, and "Law & Order" and "Castle" writer/producer Barry Schindel will serve as its showrunner, the HR reports.

"Rex," which hails from production company Berman Braun, was in development at NBC two years ago, but the network passed on it following the writers strike. The network's new management took a second look and decided to go ahead with it.

NBC...more failures forthcomign and that's a good thing for this pile of crap for a network.

I am so happy that BET is considering moving forward w/ The Game! It is a good show; it just had a tough time slot; not many people in that demographic are at home on a Friday night.

Stop being a jerk Richard! NBC is the best.

I am really excited about this show because I watched the reality show that they were on and they were so clearly talented and funny. I voted for their presentation to win and was happy that they did.

If "Rex" is up to those kind of standards it should great. Another winner for NBC. The network of Chuck, the Office, and 30 Rock. The network that actually knows what funny is!

No, Richard's right. NBC sucks. They have fallen down in the show category. They cancelled "Life" with Damien Lewis, gave Jay Leno his own little special that sucked, they kicked Conan off, they let Heroes stay on even though it's definitely fallen off, and they have crap like "The Marriage Ref". I now watch ABC on a regular basis. NBC SUCKS!!!
