Miley Cyrus' pole dance: fun or inappropriate?
Miley Cyrus has stirred up controversy once again with behavior usually reserved for adults.
The 16-year-old performed a pole dance while singing "Party in the USA" at the Teen Choice Awards, which were telecast Monday night.
Not only did she gyrate and drop low on the makeshift stripper pole, which was perched atop an ice cream cart, but her attire -- short shorts and an exposed bra -- definitely gave the viewers a show. She did not, however, take off any clothes or troll the audience for tips.
Check out Miley's dance and other best and worst moments from the Teen Choice Awards.
This isn't the first time that Cyrus has been criticized for actions that may not be appropriate for her impressionable young fans. Previously, racy photos of her with an exposed bra were leaked on the Internet, and another time she posed for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in nothing but a sheet.

One person on another message board commented that the pole was "obviously" there for her to hold on to for balance. If that was the case, they should have made it look like it belonged with the ice cream cart by painting it or decorating it somehow. It really looks like a stripper pole and she treats it as such.
Than again, girls her age spent their formative years watching Britney, so she is just p***ing it on.
So any one standing near a poll or swinging or hanging from one is a stipper, give me a break get a life.
Take all the things away that are held up by polls at the school yards because kids will soon be all strippers.lol
STRIPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its not the fact that the pole was there it washow she used it. I dont disrespect Miley shes young she will make questionable decisions that is a given but honestly this was a little uncomfortable to watch
Just watched it on youtube, wouldn't be bored enough to actually watch an awards show, but this is blown WAY out of proportion. Yes it was probably a bad image choice, but I've seen more disgusting behavior than that.
super-short shorts, extreme-mini skirt, really-low cut dress, pole dancing and grinding--all done in one night by a 16 year old.
I don't if it was 'inappropriate' for a performer, but is was disturbing for the viewer.
LIFC.
The pole was only a few seconds of the dance - no it was not a great choice. But it is a great song and she is going to make mistakes as she finds herself. My 13-year idolizes her and I don't have a problem with that. I'd rather have my daughter like Miley than sing "I Wanna Take a Ride on your Disco Stick!!"
Isn't there also a hypocrite mentality going on here? I mean, as a nation, we're constantly on alert for pedophiles and condemning everyone who makes any sort of sexual comment about a minor, and that's fine. That's how it should be.
So then why are we okay with this kind of behaviour from a minor? I mean, should everyone who was 18 and older have turned away from their TV sets to avoid being a pedophile? Are we trying to set a trap?
We're sending a mixed message. It's okay for under-age kids to present themselves in a sexual manner, but it's not okay for anyone to like it. We'll be making our country a safer place for our kids when we stop allowing these "idols" to put them in jeopardy in the first place.
Now I see why my mom stopped letting my kid sister watch & listen to Hannah Montana.
